Did you check the fuses? They have a bad habit of either get shaken loose or break the wires in the fusebox.

SOURCE: Harley won't start ... starter not working

That clicking sound you are hearing may be a circuit breaker tripping indicating a short circuit somewhere. I think the starter circuit is powered by the ignition circuit. If you have a short circuit in your ignition system the breaker will trip killing power to your ignition, thus the engine dying, and preventing power for the starter circuit preventing the bike from being restarted.

On your bike, I believe there is a chrome coil cover over the coil on the left side of the bike. Check and see if this cover has come loose. I've seen them come loose and fall down on the coil connector on top of the coil shorting it out. If that ain't it, just keep looking, there's a short somewhere. Good Luck

Well the good news is the click indicates the switch is working, when you press the switch the 2poles on the solenoide are joined together alowing the current to the starter, bridge the wires at the solenoide this should put power directly to the starter you wont need to press the start switch, if the engine does not turn over check the connections to both the battery and starter motor,

I have a 93 pathfinder SE 4X4 automatic transmission that had full power, new starter and battery. Sometimes it will start and sometimes not. By passed starter relay by adding push button start and it started 6-8 times then nothing. I finally figured out that it was the neutral safety or inhibitor switch on the 4 wheel drive shifter. Just an idea..good luck

1999 suzuki srad, when i press the starter button nothing happens, rode yesterday with no problems, lights and everything else works

okay....assuming battery is charged....didn't run down overnight...start with the basics..

is the Kill switch (Engine stop) on the right bar in the RUN position?

is the bike showing its in NEUTRAL?

Normally you can crank in gear...but only if the sidestand is up, and the clutch switch is satisifed by having the lever pulled in.

If none of thius works....test battery voltage, battery connections.

My 2001 Yamaha R1 has an issue. I put the key in and turn it on, everything lights up fine, but when I press the start button nothing happens.

If you push the starter button and hear a click the starter button is good. If you do not hear a click, put power to the two skinny solenoid activation wires(+ and -), if you hear a click now you have a bad starter button. Clean or replace the switch. Follow the positive battery cable to the solenoid, short across the battery power cable and the starter power cable. If the starter works you need a new solenoid. If you tap on the starter with a plastic hammer while holding the starter button, and it works, you need new starter brushes. If you take the starter apart and the coils are burnt or the armature is shorted you need a new starter.

Won't start worked this morning now won't start... lights and everything work....tried to jump start nothing...

When you turn the engine over, do the lights dim significantly? Does the engine turn over or do you just get a clicking? Despite the lights working this could still be a bad battery. Starting a car draws a lot of current and if the battery is bad then this situation can arise. Jumping might also not work in this case. If the engine turns over then its something else. Check the coil/plugs for a spark and check for fuel.

My engine wont start

check battery for full charge and tight cables.use test light check for power to starter when pushing start button.if there is, check starter. if none check for power to start solenoid on small wire going to it w/ testlight when you press start.if none, check start button, & wiring.if youi have power to it,but no start, take large screwdriver & make contact between both solenoid cable posts, make sure bike is in neutral. should crank, confirming that solenoid is bad.also, even if the solenoid has no power going to it to energize it you can still use the screwdriver trick to get bike to crank.

Sporty won't crank.

Take the leads off the battery and clean the mating surfaces with a wire brush and reinstall. Check all the grounds are tight. Put the battery on a charger on low overnight to get the voltage back to at least 12.5V and then try again. If you don't have a charger, they are under $20 at Walmart. If the starter still does not attempt to turnover, try jump to the battery positive terminal. If the starter turns over then, you know it is in the starter switching system. If not, starter?
