Question about 2001 Yamaha V Star 1100 Classic

1 Answer

99 CBR will start but wont run

Just bought a used CBR 600. Was running great for about a month and then while riding, it died. got it home and researched about of threads, pulled the engine apart and cleaned the carbs, but they weren't dirty at all. The engine will start with the full choke and run for 10 seconds, the whole time getting rougher until it dies. Any turn of the throttle and it completely dies. Anyone have any ideas?
Also checked the air filter and cleaned it, but didn't think to pull the plugs while I had it apart.

It is a 99 Honda CBR 600.. Sorry new to the forum and was posting off of someone with a similar issue. I checked the fuel and it appeared good/not varnished, and there appeared no build up in the carburetor.

Did not check the fuel filter but can check that fairly quickly. Didn't cross my mind since this came on so sudden.

Thanks for any help you can provide, dont have a trailer and already had to push it a mile to get it home.. :)

Is this a Honda CBR 600 or a Yamaha Vstar 1100 Classic? The troubleshooting is a bit different between the two.

My battery on my 94 Honda cbr 600 f2 wont hold a charge I jump it and it will run for a short while then die

With a voltmeter check to see if terminals show several volts higher than battery specs when bike is running. If so then replace battery. If not have charging system checked out.

Cbr 600 starts dies

I could be wrong but it sounds like your getting air in the gas lines. Is your gas cap tightening correct and working properly? Check all fuel lines to see if you have a crack or loose and air getting in.

My bike dies while riding

Sounds like it may be sucking air from one place or another. You may have a small hole in a fuel hose, problem with fuel filter, or just a weak connector where the tube makes a connection. Something a little more major would be a gasket under the carburetor needing replacement. Check the tubes first. A fault with gasoline that contains ethanol is that they bring on deterioration of fuel lines. This is the easiest fix.

1996 cbr f3 bogging

When you strip a set of carbs you should balance them after refitting. The kit isn't expensive and comes with instructions. It could be something as simple as the throttle cables are set up wrong(if one is opening first then the engine may work okay in 1st but bog when under greater load ie 2nd)

1994 Honda CBR 600 F(2)R will not start when engine is hot

Hi, Anonymous your bike starts great when cold but once it reaches operating temperature and the engine is shut off for a few minutes then you try to restart it and it will turn over but will not fire or it doesn't do anything, the usual suspects are:
1. When electronics get hot they build up resistance then stop working. It might be an ignition coil, stator, CDI unit etc. First, you must find out if the spark dies out. When the bike won't start, pull a plug wire off, stick a new spark plug in the end and ground the threads on bare metal while someone cranks the engine over. You should see a nice big blue spark between the spark plug gap. Incorrect spark plug gap will cause or contribute to a no start when hot issue.
2. Fuel Tuners have been known to cause this type of problem, disconnect it and see if resolves the issue.
3. Any engine management sensor could be faulty especially the ones that monitor temperature.
4. Gas cap not venting properly, improperly routed fuel lines they must always go down from the gas tank to the carburetor never in any kind of a loop this will cause a vapor lock. Clogged, bent, kinked, pinched or restricted carburetor vent lines will do the same.
5. Overhead camshaft valves adjusted too tight when cold, this will cause loss of compression when hot, except for pushrod engines they usually get looser when hot.

Put a new battery in my 96 cbr 600 last month its been fine .. yesterday did a few wheelies n the key came out finally wen i stoped the bike died n battery was dead ... could it b a stator or rectifier ?...

chare the battery back up and get a volt meter, the battery should read 12v or a little higher, when you start the bike the voltage should rise to around 14v, if it doesnt rise it is not charging and the reg or stator needs checking

What kind of maintenance should i do to my 1989 cbr 600 f to keep it in tip top running condition

  • Change gearbox oil every 3000 miles. Change oil filter every 6000 miles. Use 10w40 motor oil. NEVER use synthetic lubricants as they can mess up the clutch.
  • Oil the chain every two weeks. Lube the control cables every oil filter change.
  • Keep the gas tank full in the cold months. This lessens internal tank rusting due to condensation in the tank. Drain the carbs when the bike will sit over the winter unless you plan on starting the bike every two weeks and letting it run for 15 minutes each time.
  • Be sure the gas valve is turned off when the bike is not in use.
  • Get a 2 amp trickle charger and charge the battery once a week for 4 hours in the winter. Be sure to keep enough water in the battery to cover the top of the plates in each cell. Know that batteries only last two years or so.
  • Check the chain tension once a month during the summer riding season.

It all seems to be leading to fuel starvation. Have you checked the tank breather is not blocked which can be a small hole in the petrol cap or a tube from under the tank. It could also be a blocked fuel filter. There should be two. One inside the fuel tank under the petcock, another before the fuel pump. Here is the workshop manual where you can find all info you will ever need for this bike.
