Are the handle bars over to one side when you are trying to lock it? (usually the left) If that don't work one of the lugs on the frame that's used to lock the steering could be broken. They are located on the frane at the back of the main steering bearing.

Chevrolet Truck Steering Wheel Removal Instruction

1 Turn the steering wheel from side to side until it locks into place. This will make the process a bit easier, as the wheel won't be turning as you work.

2 Remove the horn button in the center of the steering wheel by pulling it off towards you. This will expose the steering wheel nut at the center.

3 Unbolt the center bolt from the steering wheel, using the 1/2-inch ratchet, extension and socket. This might free the steering wheel right away, but most likely you'll have to proceed to the next step.

4 Position the steering wheel puller on the steering wheel such that the center bolt on the puller is on the center shaft of the wheel. Then thread in the bolts supplied with the puller into the two threaded holes on either side of the center shaft on the wheel.

5 Tighten down the center bolt on the steering wheel puller using the 1/2-inch ratchet and socket until the steering wheel pops free. Then remove the steering wheel puller from the steering wheel.

KEY WON'T TURN ON THE IGNITION

Hi Aldene, Your vehicle seems too young to have a problem with a worn key so I suggest that the problem was related to the position of the steering wheel and the tongue of the locking mechanism. Sometimes when the lock engages it is under the load of the weight of the front wheels, if they are not in the straight ahead position. A small movement of the steering wheel is usually enough to release the steering lock. Regards John

Steering wheel won't lock, key won't come out

If the ignition normally only locks with the vehicle in park position, then check the switch on the gear lever mechanism is working.
If not, then you'll have to jiggle and wiggle that key out or replace the ignition lock.

The car will turn over but won`t start but if I turn the key on and jump the starter it starts

Sounds like the ignition switch has gone kaput. The ignition switch come in two pieces, an electrical switch and a mechanical switch.

The switch electrical portion can be replaced separatly from the mechanical portion (tumbler that the key engages). It is not a real difficult repair but requires some mechanical knowlege of how the column is assembled.

This can be verified with electrical test equipment prior to buying a new electrical switch.
