The thing that will make your pipes turn red while running (usually under load) is your carbs being dirty and the bike is running way to lean. getting to much air and not enough fuel. if it was running rich to much fuel the bike would sputter and backfire and foul plugs. if you keep running it like that you will likely blow a hole through the piston or the head gasket. you most likely need a carb clean and sync.
if the bike was sitting and not stored (fuel drained and cylinders fogged) there is probably sludge in the carbs. a carb clean is not something for a novice. its easier to pay a shop to clean and sync them. not cheap but almost always the better way to go if you do not have carb experience.

The clutch going out is a separate issue. if the clutch does not engage at all when you release the clutch lever then that could be a failure of the clutch basket or the springs that push the plates together. the clutch is under the right side cover near your right foot. if the clutch is grabbing but slipping it is worn clutch plates and springs and can be repaired with a clutch rebuild kit.

either way you end up taking off the clutch cover. not a hard job if you are handy. rebuild kits come with instructions.

My 2005 450 RMZ exhaust pipe glows red at idle. What size jets do I need at 1000' elevation?

Hi, Mark your motorcycle is a high-performance dirt bike designed to run flat out that being said if you are strolling down some scenic trail at a slow speed or letting the bike idle for a few minutes your header pipe will turn cherry red, why you ask? It is not a street bike, it is designed for competition and weight is a major factor all necessary components are of the smallest and lightest design necessary to maintain performance under extreme conditions ie. small radiator and inside frame oil reservoir that doesn't get cooled, the majority of your riding needs to be at high speed. The exhaust pipe at the cylinder head on my 2009 DYNA glide glows bright red, is this a problem with exhaust not leaving the pipe fast enough? Also, I think I have an exhaust leak on the same pipe.

I have an XLCH1000 that had the same problem. I fitted finned exhaust clamps at the cylinder end and that cooled it down.
Ride safe and loud pipes save lives.

Exhaut pipes turn red hot plus intake plate or butterfly plate stay open. wash engine, then problems started whole exhaust pipe turn cherry red.looked at intake trotoll plate or butterfly plate it stayed...

your intake manifold should only open when you accelerate on the gas pedal you need to lube it.and the exhaust pipes probably turn red because there is not enough air to cool the engine check your fan relay switch and thermostat to make sure they are working. That may very well be the problem.

Very slow to start huskey te 250 on a 53 plate

The engine is water cooled. The exhaust pipe is air cooled. Sitting idle and revving the engine is likely to exceed the cooling capacity of the motionless air. Air needs to flow over the pipe to cool it. If the pipe is glowing red while riding then consider re-jetting the carb. Too lean a fuel/air mixture burns hotter.
Please rate this solution. Thanks!
