2 stroke or 4? if 2 stroke definitely jetted wrong choking makes it rich tells me your main jet is too lean (smaller hole) you need to pull carb check jets for plugage clean jets write down numbers check dealer for correct jet size for your elevation if 4 stroke back fire thru carb indicates timing is off or bad intake valves or cam lobe worn

Engine starts but won't continue to run. Choke doesn't stay closed after starting. will stay running only if I hold choke closed manually.

let it warm up with choke closed manually after it starts to stall with choke closed open it and dont let it stall u can learn to play with the choke a little to get it to run right GOOD LUCK!

Finally started my 79 suzuki TS 250 and it wouldn`t stop. There`s no kill switch. I had to turn off the fuel and let it run out. Kind of worried about starting again. Tried starting it again, but having...

To stop a dieseling two stroke motor you can either choke them out (full choke) or block the air intake with a rag and starve the motor for air. Chances are the carburetor slide is sticking in a wide open position. Take the carburetor apart clean and inspect it. Also inspect the intake manifold for cracks and air leaks. For normal running add a kill switch so you can stop the motor without having to unplug or ground the spark plug. If the motorcycle is completely stripped except for a power wire to the coil, add the kill switch between the generator (wire coming out of the motor) and the coil.

75 hp 2 stroke outboard motor stays choked after starting the engine. how can i get the choke to release? engine always flooded after a day or two of not using the motor

Check choke linkage OMC engines use a fair bit of plastic in and around the carby.
Flooding, Remove your carby and clean it out , you could replace the needle and seat , but they are not hard to remove so I would just clean it then replace it after if you are still having the same problem.

I have a 1993 2 stroke 40 hp mercury outboard motor and it seems that whenever you start it you need to use the choke, even when it's been running for some time and warm. Is that normal for these motors?...

Use it .It is a common thing with 2 strokes.Outboards have water in them and cool down quicker than say a 2 stroke motorbike. They have no water and keep the heat in the engine longer. If it runs well,,don't spend the money. All the choke does is gives the motor a slightly richer air/fuel mix at startup. It cannot hurt the motor.Hope this helps

Ryobi 700r trimmer will not run without choke

First check the fuel lines for breaks, usually found at the tank. If lines are o.k. then you will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb. cleaner. Use a Den Tek Brush, (used for cleaning between teeth), to clean the small portals in the carb. Reassemble and start. If it still doesn't run any better, then you will need to buy a carb. kit and replace the small screen, gasket(s), diaphragm, & needle valve.

Wont stay running with out the choke on

it sounds like you need a carb clean performed. the idle cuciut jet is probably dirty and that is the jet that supplies gas to the combustion process at idle rpm's. when you have the choke pulled out it is adding fuel and air so when you shut off the choke the fuel supply goes away. for the oils use yamalube 2 stroke oil for pre-mix and 10w -30 gear oil for your tranny.
