The truck will start if you floor the throttle while cranking, then will only stay running with the throttle all the way down. already replaced spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel pump, fuel filter. at first i thought maybe the timing, but it is in time perfectly. next i tried the choke, starting it with the choke open or closed it does the same thing. i havent been able to get it running long enough to warm up to see if that helps at all. ANY help would be greatly appreciated guys thank you all
It sounds like the carb is flooding the intake. Any chance the float is faulty or the carb is leaking internally ?
how could I check the float without taking the carb apart?
Other than gasoline dripping into the venturi, I doubt you could check it without taking the top off. There could be enough dirt in the line to keep the float valve open, like a leaking toliet. You may try disconnecting the fuel line before the pump and just running off gas in the carb bowl.
But I would say you'll probably have to take the carb apart to inspect it.

I would check the oil pressure of the engine. The reason is the timing chain tensioners are run with oil pressrue. I think your timing chain tensioners are leaking down when engine is getting to operating tempature . The oil is thinning down as warms up , as it should to lubercate . I would check compression and do a cylinder leak down test on all the cylinders. Then if the compression is good and the cylinder leak down is good. I would change all the timing components, ( chain, timing gears, timing chain tensioners )
Good Luck , I hope this helps.
SOURCE: i am not getting power to my fuel pump
on a lot of ford products there is a switch that goes from the fuel pump to the inside of one of the bedsides.
what this is, is a shock switch that turns the fuel pump off if it absorbs a hit.
its a really dumb safety feature but its effective.
there is a red button on it that u have to press to make it active again.
sometimes they just trip for no reason.

If it has a distributor it is possible that the reluctor / stator has a broken wire. preventing the computer from firing the engine. This can be intermitant and would require the removal of the distributor. If the engine has a crank shaft sensor then this may be a possible place for a broken wire or bad connection. Location for these can be on the harmonic damper at the from=nt of the engine or located at or near the flywheel......
