Lost power on hill, stalled, cranked it over, heard clang. starter won't engage
Sounds like "timing chain" issues. If this is a 2004-2008 vehicle(V-8) there were parts called "Cam Phasers" on DOHC engines that were a problem. Use the term "Cam Phasers" with a Websearch and see if this applies to you.
There are different approaches to fixing this. This "clang" is concerning. To start, drain the oil and see if there are metal chips or shavings coming out with the oil. If yes, just pull the engine and then break down the engine. If no metal shavings, you may only need to remove the front half of the motor to investigate the timing chain. Or remove the valve covers to see if one of the two camshafts snapped.
You might try using a breaker bar and grab the crankshaft bolt and turn the crankshaft the opposite way to see if the engine will free up or the bolt unscrews.
SOURCE: starter engages in on position, before going to crank and keeps
dont run it like that. have it towed to get fixed. or call a mobile mechanic.
SOURCE: won't start, starter will spin but will not engage fly wheel to crank up engine
Sounds like the starter drive is shot, best thing to do is replace starter with new or rebuild.
SOURCE: starter continues
I would recommend replaceing the starter solenoid as the same time with the starter.
SOURCE: Engine will not start. Single click heard when
This problem relates to the solenoid and that should have been replaced with the starter. If it is a rebuilt starter the solenoid may have been faulty on it. Take it back.

If the starter is just clicking, then it is not,but if the starter is kicking the starter drive out,and that is the noise you are hearing then it might be,turn the crank pulley with a socket and ratchet ,clock wise,if it turns then this is not the problem, make sure the ground to the engine is good,if the ground cable has gone bad, this will happen.
