Cracked case on a yamaha yzf450

After riding with what appears to be a loose chain my quad stalled out with a strange clanking. i looked down and saw oil spewing out dirrectly infront of the front sprocket. after examining it appears that the chain missed the case saver and cracked my case. what parts (gaskets, engine parts etc) do i need to fully repair this? and if you dont mind could you please give me some sort of a step by step guide on how to replace it. thanks!

Have someone witha aluminum welder fix the hole. if any bearings were trashed due to lack of oil then you should dissassemble the engine and get another left side cover from ebay.

You need an engine as by the time you noticed the oil leaking, it was too late. If you have a cracked crankcase, get a motor.

Chainsaw drive rotates with chain but chain stops when asked to cut wood

You are either pressing down on the saw (riding it) too hard and causing the centrifugal clutch to stall OR the sprocket is completely worn out. If the sprocket is worn out so bad it won't move the chain it will make a horrific and ungodly racket.

Try lightening up your pressure and see if that helps. You should never stall the saw out as its only going to cut so fast. Keep the chain sharp and it'll almost drop itself through the timber with its own weight.

What would cause a new chain saw not to cut

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but it sounds like you are saying your chainsaw is newer and runs fine, but it just isn't cutting wood well?

If that is the case then it means the chain wasn't sharpened correctly. Lots of guys do it at home and don't file down the raker teeth in front of the cutter heads, so the teeth don't grab into the wood and just nibble at the wood and make fine sawdust. It is always best to get the chain sharpened at a saw shop first so you can get an idea of the correct angles and depth of the rakers etc. After that you can try to match the saw shop for a while with a round file to take off ragged edges unless you have a decent professional saw sharpening unit.

What could be making a loud clanking noise at 30+mph..the engine runs smooth...yamaha virago 1998

If not an engine problem then it sounds like something is loose (sorry to state the obvious). Could it be your sidestand because as you are checking for the visible, the stand will be down as you look around the bike and is only up when riding. Hitting a bump or normal vibration could cause it to hit against something (exhaust, frame etc.)

Chain oil leaks out quickly a rancher 55

Remove the bar and chain. Clean the engine side case where the bar fits. Does the oil port itself leak or is it coming from the engine case? If from the case, it may be a loose or split line from the tank or it could be a cracked oil tank. If the tank is cracked, replace it as there is no glue or epoxy that can permanently repair it. If the leakage seems to have stopped, clean the drive end of the bar including the two small oil passages that run out to the chain groove. Re-assemble the bar and chain, then run the bar tip at speed near some cardboard for a few moments--it should throw off a thin line of oil. This saw should have an oil volume adjustment screw located near the chain return area on the back or underneath the case. Adjust CW to reduce the oil volume. Hope some of this helps!

Chain has snapped while riding it and has hit something and now leaking oil from somewhere?

Oh dear !
That sounds serious
Looking at photos of the engine it I cant see any engine protector in forwards of the engine sprocket !!
As the broken end of the chain came around the sprocket it will have whip-lashed forward& hit the crank-cases, probably cracking or tearing a hole in one of the crank-case halves - which can only be bought in pairs.
If that is the case then a replacement engine would be the easiest & cheapest option
BUT If you are very lucky the oil pump cover may have taken the blow and become dis-lodged / cracked hence the leak
Good Luck
Always use high quality chain & sprockets

I have aN ATV Yamaha Raptor 660, the positive terminal on the battery is looase and bolt is stripped. he quad will only start if i hold pressure down on the battery terminal. Is it ok to ride it once i...

Just replace it with a nut and bolt that is smaller then the hole,
this way you can put the bolt through the holder and tighten down the bolt which will hold the connector onto the post.

You can clean the terminals with baking soda and water, then cover
with petroleum jelly to keep them corrosion free.

There is actually a compound for this but the jelly is almost as good.
