Hi Anonymous, either your headlight has a bad ground, your battery is discharged below normal rates, or you need to do an amperage draw test on your starter. Good luck

SOURCE: 1979 CX500. When you push the start button why does light dim

The starter button when pushed in half way turns the power off to the lights so more electricity can be used for powering the ignition and starter at the same time. If you press lightly you can turn off the lights with out engaging the starter. Pressing all the way down engages the starter. The button is a two position switch. Carefully take it apart , clean it and put it back together and you may fix the problem.I have three old Honda motorcycles that all have right hand switch assemblies wired to them from other bikes (Because the original was no longer available) You should be able to rewire any Honda two cable switch too work on your bike.

that normally indicates a low battery or faulty battery
clean the battery terminals and battery posts to shiny clean and make sure that they are tight
check for loose corroded earth( ground wire or bad leads
pull the starter and have it bench tested as it may be poling out from worn bushes

Starter motor run on, starter has been replaced

replace the ignition switch or disconnect the starter cable from the switch and make/fit a push button for the starter motor just like the old fashioned cars like the old mini that had a push button by the handbrake or a london bus that had one on a panel above your head

The bike won't start. When you push the dtart button the head light shuts off and nothing else happens

sounds to me as though your battery is very low on power, either that or your starter motor is stuck and wont turn which will pull loads of amps from battery and possibly dim headlight to nothing.

Tried to start my bike with new battery and only the lights come on and a single click come from around the battery area and the lights dim. on a 2003 suzuki 1300 hayabusa.

The starter button is supposed to turn the headlight off when you press it. The click says that the solenoid is being activated. Therefore the button works. Follow the positive battery cable to the starter solenoid. Now short across the two terminals or touch the battery cable to the starter cable, if the starter works you have a bad solenoid. Push the starter button and tap on the starter with a plastic hammer. If this causes the starter to work your starter brushes are worn out and need to be replaced. If anything else is wrong with the starter you will have to replace the assembly I'm pretty sure Suzuki only sells the brushes and gaskets but no armatures, barrels, bearings, etc.

My high beam and low beams wont work but the tiny lights right next to them and all other electrical stuff seems fine....wat could my problem be?

Some Yamahas are designed to shut off the headlight while cranking starter to conserve battery power.
I'm not sure your R1 was built that way...but other models have the same problem.......
The starter button has a set of contacts for headlight, and a set of contacts for starter circuit.....as you push in the button, the headlight contacts open first...then as you push further the starter circuit contacts close to crank the starter. If the button does not fully release after starting the headlight stays off. So try WD40 around the button edges and work the button in and out several times with key off....then recheck headlight operation with key on.

Headlights go dim when try to start, but nothing happen the switch lights come on but dont start. 1800 vtx motorcycle 2003

The headlight is supposed to turn off when you push the starter button. If you push the starter button and the solenoid clicks, the button is good. If there is no power going to the solenoid you can try disassembling and cleaning the button. Take a wire and jump the two posts on the solenoid or touch the two cables together. If your starter works, then you need a new solenoid. If you hold the starter button and tap on the starter with a plastic hammer and the starter works you need new starter brushes. Anything else wrong with the starter and you need to replace the starter assembly , unless the manufacturer sells replacement parts so you can repair the starter. most manufacturers only sell replacement starter brushes.

Hi; I have a 1985 Honda Nighthawk cb650sc the Headlight doesn't always turn on with the bike, (filament and fuse are fine). The headlight operation is sporatic. I changed the headlight bulb and...

Take apart and clean your starter button or replace the right hand switch assembly. The starter button is a two position switch. Push it halfway and the headlight turns out. Push it all the way and it activates the starter solenoid. If the button malfunctions the headlight does not come back on.

1985 v-max no start condition

If your headlight dims badly, you may have a draw from something. The best way to test it is to use a meter. Test the battery voltage, and then while trying to start it test again, if you have a big voltage drop, something may be bad. (Like a starter) You can also disconnect the positive from the starter and see if your headlight dims then. Hope this might get you rolling!!!

Starter will not engage

Either your battery is bad or a connection has worked loose. Check battery cables (both ends) and if everything is tight replace the battery.
