Question about 2000 Yamaha XJR 1300 SP
There must be a wire shorted , the most likely places to start looking are where the wiring loom bends near the steering head, and check the seat is not squashing a wire

This happens every time you first turn the bike on, just before you hit the start switch, right? That's normal...your bike has a "brain" that goes through a systems check when you turn the key.

The rear brake stoplight switch will have un-adjusted itself. Find the stoplight switch which is near the rear brake fluid reservoir just aft of the right hand side panel. The black plastic adjustment nut is on top of the switch body. Turn the nut clockwise until the brake light comes on when the footbrake pedal is depressed.
