Question about 2001 Yamaha YZ 426 F

1 Answer

My brother has a 2001 yamaha yz 426 and it won't start. I have tried changing the plugs and i have checked everything else on the bike, but the only problem i am running into is the kick start part. it has enough pressure and build up but once you kick it down it stays down and won't pop back up like they are supposed to. I took the kick bar off and looked at the threads and they look fine too me. If anyone can answer this question i would be extremely thankful. So please help me figure this out. Thanks Everyone.

SOURCE: TROUBLE STARTING BIKE HELP

1. Remove the plug from the cylinder.

2. Put the plug wire cap on the removed plug.

3. Have a buddy push down several times on the kick starter
while you look at the end of the plug for a spark.

This works best in a dim or dark garage.

SOURCE: yz 250 4-stroke It's extremely hard to kick over, so it has a pressure release lever on the handle bar. Is there some "proper" way to kick it over, or do I just kick it while holding the "pressure rel

That lever is a compression release and pulling it will make kick stating an excersie routine. Kick start without the pulling the lever. See how that works. good luck.

Bike sat up for 3 or 4 years. recently cleaned the carb, changed the plug and oil and bike started. Tried starting it recently and it wont. Seem to be backfiring sometimes when kicking it over.

clean plug .. although new plug if old fuel or unbalanced carb it may quickly foul. if this works you may need help to work out whats causing plug to foul.
