SOURCE: Buell blast is backfiring. Sat for 2 years so,

If you did not completely disassemble the carb and remove all jets/emulsion tubes/needle valves then you did not clean the carb adequately. You could try adding either Seafoam, the Yamaha CARB-CL-EAN-ER, or Techron fuel system cleaner in an auxiliary gas tank and running the engine for a short while to ensure the mix gets into all the nooks and crannies. Let it sit for a couple hours to do the work, then drain out the float bowl, hook up the bike's gas tank and see what happens. Otherwise you need to remove, strip, clean, reassemble, and reinstall the carb.

Why does a 2002 buell blast backfire through the carb when given throttle?

Hi, Anonymous popping on deceleration is usually caused by an air leak in the exhaust system and is generally located where black carbon soot is seen as a flashing build up from any joint connection. This condition can easily be remedied by removing and cleaning both joint pieces and reassembling with high temp silicone and the correct torque applied to the exhaust clamps where present. Coughing is usually caused by an air leak in the intake system and will generally have the same telltale signs of location by a wet or damp buildup of oil/gas seepage at the intake manifold to cylinder head or carburetor connection and in rare instances a worn throttle plate shaft and or seals. Spitting is usually caused by a faulty accelerator pump and or nozzle, or the float bowl needle and seat leaking and overflowing through the main jet mixing well nozzle, or the air-fuel mixture screw set to lean. My 2005 buell blast starts but when I give it gas it bogs and stops running

This is just a simple clean the carb scenario. It probably needs a new carb boot too. They get old and air leak really quickly. This causes the little pops and backfires the bike develops. Of course if the carb isn't clean or has bad fuel in it it will do this every time.
MXoutlaw is WRONG on the mixture screw - it is 2.5 turns out from bottom as per the factory service manual. Check out buellridersonline . com for some more help. They have a pretty active blast section in thier forum.

Runs rough, backfire through carb

check spark plug, air filter, carbs are getting enough fuel (also not to much-it would leak.) other than that it might be inlet valve needs adjusting

2000 Buell Blast runs great around town. Freeway speeds runs for 3 to 5 miles then out of nowhere dies. Acts like it's running out of fuel then dies. I have pulled the carb and cleaned the jets. C

If it starts up after sitting for a few minutes, (like 2 or 3) it could have a plugged fuel filter or the gas tank strainer built into the fuel valve could be plugged too. Drain the gastank anyway and change the gas with fresh. can't hurt. If it takes 15-30 minutes or after the bike cools some I would look at an ignition coil. Check to see if it has spark next time it quits.

From the sounds of that I would say FIRST get a new battery!
The stalling problem sounds to me like the carb needs to be cleaned!

Then your carb IS NOT CLEAN or IS NOT ADJUSTED PROPERLY. Flooding is a direct result of your carb having issues.

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Spark plugs in bad condition or partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition and leaking.
3. Spark plug gap too close or too wide.
4. Faulty ignition coil, module, and or sensor.
5. Battery nearly discharged.
6. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
7. Intake air leak.
8. Water, dirt, or rust in the fuel system, carburetor and/or filter.

Started my 03 blast and looked like oil and gas leaking from carb help please

no, The reason being your having some oil in your intake and carb is 1 of 2 reasons, Your Manifold Carb Coupler (Rubber Boot) is loose and your getting to much air in so its sucking it from the cylinder, thats where your getting some oil, and its probably back firing, the other reason is make sure ALL your rubber hoses and fittings are SECURLY FASTENED, if any of them are just a little loose, that will cause your carb vac to grab some oil from the cylinder too! Hope this helps!

2000 Buell Blast will not turn over

You have fuel in the tank, but is the float bowl full? Loosen the bowl drain, see if ya got gas. All the new bikes have vacuum operated fuel petcocks, and it takes forever in the spring to crank em long enough to fill the bowl. Take the line off the petcock, fill it with a small funnel with fuel, then put it back on, and fire it up.
