1982 harley davidson sportster XLH . Lost compression while riding . and it died. have electric but will not turn over or start. pistons not moving. gears work but there is not much resistance. . where do...

You need to tear the motor down, sounds as if the pistons seized or you broke a connecting rod, or bearings went out.

In any case you need to have someone that knows what they are doing check it out for you.

Compression test on a 2004 polaris scrambler 500

Take out one plug at a time and insert compression gauge. turn the engine over until the gauge reaches its highest point. Reinsert plug and do the same with each plug. The readings should differ no more than 15 lbs. if they do pour about 1 tablespoon of oil in the low compression cylinder, if it raises it to normal you have bad rings if not you need a valve job.
