Engine Vibration and noise after riding awhile

Aftering riding awhile my engine develops a vibration and when I come to a stop and rev the engine it makes strange noises inside the engine. If I shut the engine off and let it set for awhile and restart the bike it run fine for awhile. The engine doesn't seem to be overheating. I use PowerVision and monitor the engine temp. and in the smmer it get up to between 250 and 260 degrees. In the winter the temp runs about 235 degrees. It has done this since I bought it and two dealers keep telling me they can't find any problem. It feels like the engine is missing or not firing properly on one cylinder.

Maybe it is not firing properly on one cylinder. Have you changed plugs? It may also be that the coil is breaking down when hot. You might be able to check this with a coils tester if anyone has one anymore. Suzuki used to have a very good one. Very expensive Suzuki tool though. Cheaper to try a new coil. Also you might check HT wires when hot if the foregoing does not fix it. Next place I would go is try to isolate which cylinder it is and check/replace the fuel injector. This is assuming no mechanical faults. However you have POWER VISION and so it could also be something errant there.

Vibration in rear end

There are several other things which can make a noise. The people you showed the car have the advantage of hearing or feeling the noise that we do not have a chance to do.

A catalytic noise can change with the engine RPM. You can rev up the engine in Park or Neutral and should be able to replicate the noise. If not, then you have a moving part making the noise.

Sometimes the Emergency brake material comes loose from the metal backing and jams inside the rear drum/rotors. It will cause vibration when pulling away from a stop, and eventually will grind into powder.

Rear axle differential clutches. There are friction disks inside some types of rear-ends. A special lube additive makes these work. Sometimes a refill of additive and lube can make marginally performing units more quiet.

U-joints can make noise and vibrate. Its another moving part noise.

The fan clutch can also make noise and vibration. The A/C compressor and compressor clutch bearing can make noise. The A/C clutch operates intermittently depending on pressure and temperature.temperature.

Try to rev the engine while at neutral if you get the same vibration to pinpoint if its from the engine or the drive shafts. If the issue occurs at a certain rev it may likely be the variable valve unit. Check if possible if you can get errors from the computer.

Try and get closer or get another pair of ears under the hood. It could be harmonic vibration or actual engine mechanical noises like valves or lifters. This needs to be determined by pin pointing the source of the sound. You may also have an air leak/vacuum that also sounds similar..

how do you adjust the headlight beam on a xjr1300 naked 2002 bike, is it as simple as undoing the 2 bracket bolts at the sides of the lights and re-setting the lights to a new level ??
currently it seems to be set for riding with a pillion passanger or heavy load at the rear as the lights are set low, no one flashes me even if i ride at night with full beam on !

'03 FLTHPI 43,000 miles.Vibration between1,500 & 2000 rpms. before or after that it smooths out.

You could have a problem with the rubber engine mounts or the stabilizer links or both. It's not unusual to have a vibration at idle and up to about the 2000 rpm point on most rubber mount machines. This is because the rubber mounts are designed to dampen the high frequency vibrations at the engine speed people usually ride at, over 2000 rpm.

Now, if you've suddenly developed this vibration, I'd check the engine mounts and stabilizer links. The stabilizer links look kind of like those turn type cable tensioners. I think there are two on your bike, one up above the carb/ throttle body, and possibly one near the front motor mount.

2003 Jetta TDI vibrates above 35 speed

With 180k I would change the engine mounts. They are about the only thing that would dampen engine vibration and noise (assuming that the engine is running ok). There is likely one or all weak or broken. Normally when you have a vibration at speed then it is going to be driveline or wheel balance.

Replace balancer. You don't notice them until you rev it up.
