Question about Motorcycles

1 Answer

Ktmsx50 2006 I bought the above bike for my son for Christmas which has only done a couple of laps around a field from new as it frightened the previous owners child. Since having the bike my son has ridden approx five times the bike was ok the first day but he found the power to sharp and then the bike started overheating, I then took the bike to a mechanic to be checked over and to also change the washer in the clutch to springs so that it would'nt need as much throttle to start moving which i was advised to do by a ktm dealer. Since having the bike back the power is down to half and it keeps stalling when he turns the throttle off in a bend is this down to the springs or is it something else, the mechanic said one of the jets had dirt in it so he stripped the carb down and cleaned it all out he also said he had checked the reeds and checked the water pump but seemed to be fine, could the clutch be faulty due to the bike being sat in the corner for so many years or could it be more severe ? I would appreciate any advice as my son is desperate to go out practicing as he wants to start racing, also i have changed the spark plug and run the fuel mixture at 60:1 which is what the ktm dealer told me though it seems to smoke a bit and the end of the silencer has oil residue around the hole. that's all i can think of which may be of use to you, thanks again. The clutch is not part of your problem. I would focus on the carb work that was done

Check the spark timing.

Check fuel delivery. If it consistently runs on starter fluid then dies when that is exhausted, suspect a vacuum leak in the carburetor or intake manifold. This will keep the engine from sucking in fuel.

Chances are there is a water build up in the carb float bowls. The water comes from condensation in the gas tank. Try draining the carbs. Another possibility is carburetor main jets partially plugged up. You must clean the carbs if plugged jets are found to be the problem. Please rate my answer. Thanks. tombones49_152.gif

Do a compression test, you could have bent a valve.

The bolt should be replaced from a spare at a bike shop and tightened to the specified torque for safety. The turning tube should be checked for damage and that it can turn freely. The last thing you want is steering locking up or a separating handle bar while cycling at 40 km/h!

How much would you sell a 36" tv for

Hi iglidewell
In the last 7 years the price of plasma and lcd tvs has dropped quit a bit, so that makes it a popular choice.
But there are still die hard fan for the tube types, so you could ask from around $150 to $200 for it, or a quick sale at a 100 bucks.
Merry Christmas
P.S please do not rate this answer(unless it helps) since this is only a suggestion.
