Hi, Anonymous you have a dead short which is usually the easiest to find. Using a test light connected to the hot side of the blown fuse holder, start probing the wire leaving the fuse holder about an inch away the test light should illuminate, keep probing towards the ignition switch until the test light no longer illuminates you are now very close to the short. I have 1999 Pontiac grand am, my fuel pump fuse blows out whenever the ignition switch is turned. Do anyone have any suggestions on the problem?

When you turn the key on, it sends power to a relay. On the back end of the relay would be the computer for the engine computer. Which controls the fuel pump. Basically telling the computer, I am requesting fuel. Since the fuse blows, the possibilities are a bad wire from the fuse to the relay. A bad relay. A bad wire from the relay to the computer. A bad computer. First pull relay in the panel, turn it on. If it doesn't blow the fuse, You have eliminated one wire. If it does, fix that wire. Then swap the relay with another in the panel, if it doesn't blow a fuse, replace the relay. If it does , then remove the two plugs from the computer(under the dash on the drivers side). If it still blows a fuse, fix the wire from the relay to the computer. If it doesn't blow the fuse. Replace the computer.

did u replace the relay just a curious question, sometimes they have rust and water in the inside of the relay but my guess would be that you have a bare wire rubbing somewhere, causing the fuse to blow, anything significant has happened before that issue?

Why does my efi fuse keeps popping 1999 chevy prizm

Pull the EFI relay, replace the fuse, and see if it blows when you turn the key on. If it does not turn the key off, reinstall the EFI relay and remove the circuit opening relay/fuel pump relay. Turn the key on. If the fuse blows than we know the problem is One of the O2 sensors, the IAC, the purge solenoid, or the ECM You can unplug the O2 sensors, iac, and purge solenoid. Replace the fuse, turn the key on, and plug them in one at a time until the fuse blows. Replace that component. If the fuse blows with those unplugged than its probaly the wiring and possibly the ECM. let me know what you find and I'll help you more if needed.

Hello! Identify which fuse is blowing...also, does it blow as soon as it is installed or does it blow when you turn the key? Lastly your not referring to a fusible link but a maxi-fuse...ie...40; Correct?

Hello I have a 1994 Honda GL1500 Goldwing. The 5 amp fuse for backup blows every time I install a new one. The backup fuse holds memory for the cb, the radio, the clock. The backup fuse is located on...

I agree it could be the radio. try unplugging the radio then install a new fuse. If the fuse doesn't blow then you've found the problem. If the fuse blows then try unplugging 1 component at a time until the fuse no longer blows. Don't plug in the components after you've unplugged them until you find the issue. The problem with the clock could be related to the direct short - then again maybe not, but finding the short first should be your main priority. If you have any relays associated with those components then that could also cause your problem as the relay may have the short occurring inside.
Good luck!!

Ignition fuse keeps blowing when i turn the key

It MUST be the starter relay coil - or the power wire that feeds it. Likely a short in the relay coil (AKA starter selenoid).

Check your ignition/fuel pump relay---it's with all the other relays in a dash tray---it's ORANGE---check it for dead-short.

Main Fuel Pump

Fuses mean short somewhere.Fuse is always live it feeds relay but in tank pump [ fuse#4or#6 i forget anyway visa versa ] is not live until this.Relay clicks once when key tuned to on and once more when key turned to crank engine it is under dash by glove box and loud enough for someone with ear at this spot to hear.In tank pump should not be live until engine starts to crank.
