How to ajust the air screw on a 1988 yamaha tw 200 carburator

I rebuilt the carb. and can't make the bike idel . runs much better then it did befor but the bike just will not idel

sounds like the main jets are partly pluged, you must remve all brass jets and seats including needle jet and its slide soak in carb cleaner and blow out with compressed air only.. hold up to bright light to verify if all are clean. jim

check the inlet manifold rubber has not seperated from the aluminium part of the manifold ,this is very common on the ttr 250 and will cause the exact problem you have,if it is seperated either replace it or repair it with some good quality rtv sealant avoid sillicone sealant as it is not petrol resistant and will turn to jelly.adam

The noise you hear is valve clatter. You should not adjust your timing chain. Instead get a manual and find the vlave clearances for that bike. (Ex. The exaughst valve may be .006" and the intake valve may be .004") Then you'll need a feeler gauge, and to do this you'll remove the valve covers and get the engine to TDC (Top Dead Center) This is where the piston is at the very top of it's stroke and both valves are shut. (compression stroke) You must then loosen the rocker arm nut to the point that you can insert the feeler gauge between the rocker arm and the top of the valve run the nut down tight to the feeler gauge and then pull gauge out and repeat on the other valve.

If the bike has sat for a long period of time without being run - the gas that is sitting in the carb(s) will shellac.. Then the carb(s) would need to be cleaned and "rebuilt"..

SOURCE: Yamaha TW 200 cuts out at high rpm

I have a tw200 and when I have this problem its from the cam chain slipping back a notch when I unload it from my truck. I leave it in gear so when I let off the cluch it acts as a brake. I ride by my self so thats why I load it that way. I am guessing you load and unload your tw the same way. So remove the timing cover and make sure you are tdc on both the upper and lower timing marks. The bike will run if the timming is off a bit. It's really easy to set the timing on these bikes. It's easier to look for how to on the xt 200 if you need more help.

I bought a used 2001 Yamaha big bear 400 the bike had set up for a while with gas in the oil from a stuck float in the carb. I rebuilt the carb changed the oil and adjusted the valves. Checked the timing...


It seems the float level is not correct in the carburator float chamber, recheck and reset and also recheck the valve clearance and check the spark pulg gaps and also reset the air fuel mixture ratio.
when all done..run the engine to its normal temperature and than adjust the air fuel mixture screw...take it in slowly to the end taking care not to tight it toomuch to avoid damaging the tip of the screw and than go anti clock wise two and half turns to three....you will feel the engine running smoothly plus it or minus the air fuel mixture screw at this point to suit it.

My cr125 wont idel after stating can it be ajusted.


there is a little screw at the back of your carb next to your air box. kick your bike over and keep little revs on screw it clockwise (in) then start so slowly screw it anticlockwise (out) till your bike starts to rev a bit mor then release your throttle and it should tik over.

I just put on a new rebuilt carburator on my 460 v8 1987 xlt 250 ford truck 4 WH. drive. its a motorcraft stock holley. I cant seem to find a way to ajust it. Wont run smooth or idle? It was set up for...


You have two setting screws on front of carb, You start off by adjusting all the way to the left, Then back off 3/4 turn to both setting screws, Then you have to set your air fuel mixture by just slowly turn your setting clock wise do so until vibration go away. 2007 yamaha tw 200 with 10k would not run at all. Now after carb rebuild-new plug starts and idles great but stalls as soon as throttle is opened. Manual calls for 128 lbs. compression this has 120 cold...

Rebuilt all four carbs cleaned and replace needle and seat.Bike runs on choke at idle but will not excelerate,dies when you turn the throttle. feather the throttle past 3000 rpm and it will respond but...


the ajustment need to be set where they were originaly, needle position and mixture screw. the carbs are not suppling enofe fuel, was there any torn seals or diaphrams.

Bought a 2000 yamaha yzf600r which had a bad idling problem. Bike sat for a year. I cleaned the carbs, flushed the tank. Drilled out pilot caps and set the screws to 2.5 turns out as the original screw...


You can fail emissions on a bike in arizona ? Wow i thought california was bad....anyhoo let's get to your concerns....All those srews should be very close to the same setting....rule of thumb is start at 1and1/2 turns out on each screw, almost any gasoline engine will run at these setting then you can fine tune from there.....no wonder you had bad idling problems...Good luck to you friend....Tim

Idle speed problems


Hi Walker14,

You have to sync thecarbs and also you will have to reset the air-fuel mixture screws.
One of the carburators should be factory adjusted, I dont wn a kawasaki but I own a YAMAHA SECA XJ750R and thro it I am sharing my experince.
Once you have located the factory preadjusted carburator you can thn set the others to its specs. I use the feeler gauge to do for my bikes carburators and it works fine.
With regards to the mixture screw..... get the all in tightened but slowly aas to not damage the pin end of it!.
Start the bike and get it to normal running temp and thn set the screws 2 and half turns out...you may need to set your idling speed before you begin this setting of the mixture screws, you prolly will hveto go higher on revs or vicecersa ....onc eyou are at the mixture screws and adjusting them , you will surely note the differenc ein sound of he bike an its idling ..
