You should start with the battery. Get it load tested and make sure it is good. Do not assume it is good just because it shows 12 volts on a meter. If your battery proves to be good under load then proceed to checking your wiring and connections. The cables and wires should be tight and clean. Remove the cables and make sure there is no dirt or grundge where the cable connects to the battery or on the starter end of the cable. If that desn't fix your problem repost and we can go on from there.

If you've got circuit breakers tripping, you've still got a short somewhere. Pay particular attention to either of the handlebar switch housings. There are quite a number of wires running to each side and any one can easily be pinched and cause a short. I'd focus on the right side with the "Run-Stop" switch in it.

Good Luck

The ignition switch is bad. Mine did the same thing when it went bad. The switch from HD is about $60.00 or you can buy an after market switch for about $20.00. Real easy to change.

Where are fuses located on my 1997 Harley Davidson Dyna wide glide. My turn signals horn and odometer work in accessory position but not when turned to ignition don't think it the switch A

Hi, Sam you do have a separate light and accessory fuse, sorry about losing you on the phone my email address is at the end of this novella let me know how you make out.
Fuse and circuit breaker location are as follows:
SPORTSTER-Underneath the seat or behind the left side panel or inside the headlight bucket.
SOFTAIL-Underneath the seat behind the battery or under the speedometer housing.
DYNA-Behind the left side panel.
TOURING-Under speedometer housing or left and right side panel.
Under the speedometer housing or inside the headlight bucket location is for mechanical circuit breakers only.
The following is an approximate timeline of Circuit Breakers and Fuses.
1965-1990 circuit breakers only.
1990-2000 circuit breakers and fuses.
2000 and up fuses only.

How to troubleshoot this electrical problem?

Hi HDWG1, if you have a 2000 FXDWG the fuses and main circuit breaker are located behind the left side panel and the bracket that is secured by four nuts. The very first thing I would ckeck is battery voltage sould be 12.5 volts or better. The second thing I would check is the battery cables to be sure they are clean and tight especially the ground cable at BOTH ends. In case this turns into a lengthy search and repair issue you can reach me for more free advice at Do you have a service manual? Good luck and have nice day. Gregg

How do I find a short that goes to the frame as soon as I hook up the battery?

Hi Anonymous, start by isolating the circuit disconnect or remove fuses and circut breakers that go to the lights and starter. If you still have the short it's in the ignition curcuit. If not reconnect breakers and install fuses in either the light or starter curcuit. Once you determine which circuit its in use a test lite to check for continuity in the wires and connectors of the offending circuit. You can download a wiring diagram at Good luck

Check the leads to your spark plugs. These wires are cheap to change out and have a reputation for intermittent failure

Horn doesn't blow wont crank when ignition turned on a 2003 dyna superglide

Harley horns fail. Replace the horn. If this fault has happened at the same time as engine wont crank then problem with wiring. If not then check starter relay (grey one). Also check ignition switch. Are the head lights coming on when turned on? If so the ignition switch is o/k. Connect a voltmeter to horn to check horn circuit. Accessory fuse 15 Amp supplies horn circuit and brake light and turn signal circuits so if these are working fuse o/k. Ignition/start circuit requires system relay and ECM fuse to be o/k. If fuel pump operates when run switch is activated then system relay o/k. Check start relay and circuit to start button.

Blowing fuse for turn signals and speedometer

Hi Anonymous, you have a hard/dead short that should be easy to find generally they are the easiest. Time to get out your test light and connect it to the power side of the, circuit breaker or the blown fuse receiver, start by tracking the out bound wire towards the ignition switch and beyond if necessary, when the test light quits lighting you are very close to your short. How many fuses are on a 2004 dyna wide glide?

Hi Robert, try this first, turn the ignition key to on then remove the maxi fuse or disconnect the main circuit breaker and leave the switch on, then replace your battery and maxi fuse/main breaker, for more information about your question please visit the websites below. On a Dyna all fuses, circuit breakers, relays, and modules will be behind the left side panel cover secured by grommets, four nuts or screws. On later models the electrical panel bracket cover secured by four nuts or screws must also be removed to gain access to electrical components. Good luck and have nice day.

The dryer wont show any sign of power. The plug works fine

Press and hold start button for 4-5 seconds.Make sure that the start button has been fully pushed down or turned far enough to activate the dryer.

After that plug something else into the same outlet. If it works, you know you have power to the dryer. If it doesn’t work, you’ll need to check for any blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers.

If the power is there, you need to check door switch, thermal fuse, thermostats, and start switch to see if one of these is faulty.
Make sure that the control settings are appropriate, and that any buttons are fully depressed.

Good Luck and have a nice day.
