Turn the key in the ignition to the "Off" position. Turn the "Run/Stop" switch to "Run." Push and hold the odometer "Reset" button. Hold the "Reset" button and do not release it yet.
Turn the key to "Ignition," but don't start the engine. Release the odometer "Reset" button. Wait for the odometer to indicate the bike is in diagnostic mode by displaying "Diag." Push the odometer reset button and then release it when you see the "P" in the menu selection flashing.
Wait for the bike to complete the diagnostic of the electronic control module and the ignition control module. Write down the codes that are displayed after the diagnostic is complete. Code PO 374 indicates a failed or faulty crank position sensor due to a synchronization error.

Where is the crankshaft position sensor located on the 2002 Mitsubishi Montero sport xls 3.5 truck.

Hi David, The link below is how to test the crank sensor (1997-2004 3.0l Montero, Hope this helps......CHEERS

The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor is located behind the timing belt... but testing it is done without removing the timing belt or its components. This is due to the fact that the crank sensor's connector is located on top of the engine and in plain view (next to the ignition control module). In the photo below, the orange arrow points to the location of the crankshaft position sensor connectors (photo applies to: 3.0L 1997-2004 Montero Sport).

Put new crank pos. sensor still will not crank

the crank position sensor will never tell a vehicle to crank. the purpose of the crank position sensor is to detect misfires and also for engine timing. when a vehicle does not crank you need to look at starting system. check your battery, load test it. check for starter signal to starter solenoid from ignition switch.

Crank position sensor

Check if you have spark on a plug wire when it is cranking over and wont start. If you have no spark, a good guess is the crank position sensor. Often the cause of no spark, but could also be the ignition control module, the camshaft position sensor, or the pcm. If you want to be sure before replacing the sensor, have the sensor tested while on the car. A shop could test it.

Where is the crankshaft position/crank angle sensor located on a 2005 kia sedona

Hi, at the front of the crankshaft. if its near time for the timing belt, you want to replace it along with any pullies, tensioner and water pump

The crankshaft position sensor is mounted on the engine near the crankshaft.

Operation

The crankshaft position sensor is a Hall-Effect sensor that senses the crank angle (piston position) of each cylinder and converts it into a pulse signal. The signal from the sensor is relayed to the ECM to indicate engine rpm and the position of the crankshaft.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the connector from the sensor.
  3. Remove the bolt that retains the sensor in place.
  4. Remove the sensor from its mounting. To install:
    1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
    2. Clearance between the sensor and the sensor wheel should be 0.020-0.059 inch. 2002-2005
      1. Properly connect the scan tool.
      2. Start the engine and allow it to idle.
      3. Be sure the idle position switch is ON.
      4. Specifications are as follows:

Temperature - 4°F, test specification 1500-1700 RPM Temperature 32°F, test specification 1350-1550 RPM Temperature 68°F, test specification 1200-1400 RPMTemperature 104°F, test specification 1000-1200 RPM Temperature 176°F, test specification 650-850 RPM

1. Monitor the 5v reference, Gray wire to the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) with a Digital Volt Ohm Meter (DVOM) set to the MIN/MAX setting.

2. Monitor the TPS signal circuit, Blue wire with a DVOM. Voltage should range smoothly from approximately 0.44 to 5.0 volts as the throttle is opened.

3. Tap test the Electronic Control Module (ECM) and see if the codes come back or if the engine reacts.

Testing a crank position sensor on a 1997 astro

If you don't have the van, it will be very difficult to test the Camshaft Position Sensor. Most reliable tests involve cranking the engine with the sensor installed and testing the sensor's output ranges. Most CPS's are magnetic and therefore testable conditions will be most difficult to achieve outside of the vehicle.

However, if you use a voltmeter, you can test if there is any resistance between terminals 2 and 3 (on a three terminal CPS). If the resistance is zero, this will only tell you that it is probably dead, but will not test if it has any other faults.

I hope this helps.
