Hi, Anonymous your spark plug cable may be faulty or loose or has come off and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enricher.
5. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Fuel line to carburetor or throttle body pinched or kinked.
8. Carburetor float stuck.
9. Fuel injectors clogged.
10. Severely discharged or damaged battery, you need 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
11. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
12. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and CDI box.
Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting check for leakage in the dark, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
13. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty MAP, CKP, O2, TPS, sensors.
14. Faulty neutral, clutch lever, or kickstand safety switch.
15. Faulty fuel pump or fuse or relay.
16. Faulty CDI box.
17. A stuck bent or burnt valve.
18. Tip over sensor needs a reset.
19. Check for engine trouble codes.

hello there guys, listen a top tip is when the engine's cold tip the bike almost right on its side nearly touching the floof, wait for the petrol to poor out of the carb over flow pipe, this should take a matter of a few seconds, stand the bike back up again and kick and that baby should start right up, if it does then you have a problem with your float, if it still doesn,t then take it to a shop and get them to check it out, hope this helps. regards sam

The spark plug is in the center of the cylinder head you will have to remove the gas tank to get to it. When you change the plug put a little gas down the hole that should help it start after sitting for so long.

First of all, never start any vehicle without a battery.
The charging system will try to put out potentially destructive voltages attempting to recharge a non-existing battery.

What you need to check now is power to the ignition circuit.
Specifically, try testing at the + of the ignition coil?
If you do have current, then it is the distributer ignition that is bad.
If not, then it is the ignition control unit that is bad.
But both can be tested by most parts places, before buying a new one.

Points or electronic ignition? Corroborator, or fuel injection? Was the car sitting idol for a long period of time, say, 6 months to more than 1 year? With a car that old, I would start with replacing spark plug and ignition wiring. Have you checked the spark plugs? Make sure they're cleaned and gaped. If corroded, replace them.

Can't start engine after storage for several months (weather is cold)

Regardless of whether your bike has carbs or is fuel injected you need to check for spark.Remove one of the spark plugs, hold it against the engine, with an insulated pair of pliers, and crank the engine over.If there is spark then squirt some fresh gas down both combustion chambers and see if it will fire up. If it has been more than four months since you ran the bike I hope you used a fuel stabilizer before the bike was put away.If not you will have to drain the old gas, check to make sure the injectors aren't plugged,(if the bike is so equipped) and flush the lines a bit.Spark is the key,if you have it then it's a fuel delivery problem. If you don't change the plugs out, check all your connections, including the grounds, and make sure the battery is 100%. Also check the breather box for uninvited guests such as mice .For some reason they just just love to make a home in mine ,its happened three times to me now .Spark, fuel, and air. These are the only things that can go wrong with a start problem .Good luck

1991 CBR1000FN now wont start.

Try checking if you have fire at the plugs, pull a wire and use an old plug. If no fire check kill switch housing contacts, be careful and slow when pulling the housing apart! Mine had corroded contacts which stopped me cold. If that is not it I would start checking and cleaning the plug connectors to the spark unit, CDI box.

Good Luck

Wont start

firstly check your fuel .
how old is the fuel in the tank ?
Have you left the bike in the rain and water might found its way in the tank .
check your spark plug which may be burned .
check if you have a spark .
check your HT cable to your spark plug
the HT may be dead too and may have burned out which is common .
if you have a spark at the plug , check if fuel flows to the cylinder .
try to start the bike without the spark plug in place and try to smell fuel .
if you cannot smell fuel while trying to start your bike you may have a problem at your carbi and it will need cleaning .
the last thing i hope its not ... the main ignition unit which regulate the power to the HT unit and if this unit has died you will have to replace it but may be costly
