Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
4. Bank angle sensor tripped and ignition/light key switch not cycled to the "OFF" position and then back to the "ON" position.
5. Security alarm needs a reset.
6. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Electric starter shaft pinion gear is not engaging or over-running starter clutch slipping.

Engine starter spins and will not start motor somethines.

Remove the engine cover to expose the starter motor (or take the starter off). Lubricate the starter bendix, its the gear atop the starter motor shaft, use Marvel Mystery oil and then work the bendix a bit and it should fix it. If the teeth on the bendix or flywheel are damaged obviously that is where the problem lies.

Not starting

If I understand your statement correctly, noise but the engine will not "turn over." This sounds like the starter motor is running but the gear that engages the flywheel gear-teeth is not making contact at all or is moving into too-slight contact, just enough to make a lot of noise. In U.S. cars the device on the stater motor that moves the starter gear forward is called a "Bendix." As the starter motor starts to turn, the Bendix shoves a small gear forward, engaging teeth on the flywheel which spins the flywheel to start the engine. If the Bendix is sticking or has failed the gear will not move forward at all or not far enough.

Sarting with the least cost first, I'd look toward a "sticky" bendix. Try using a light penetrating oil or perhaps, WD-40 to free-up the Bendix.

Clicking noise when no start

your start motor is not rotating, means battery is empty or your start motor bendix is broken and cant rotate your motor then. Let somebody start your car and hit with a hammer on the startmotor, when bendix comes out and car start you need to replace bendix.

My want start ihad the starter check and is fine when try to start it it sounds like tilt trim on a boat motor and want turn he motor over

Sounds like the starter motor is OK - but - the starter bendix (drive) might be cooked. The bendix is a clutch that is built onto the output gear of the starter that prevents the starter motor from being over-spun when the engine starts. I am going to say you need a new starter bendix (some folks call it a starter drive). I am not sure if they are available seperately - I usually replace the entire starter. This is a common problem with these bikes, by the way.

Making a real loud noise when it starts, dissipates after awhile

The bendix in your starter motor (which is the ring gear that pushes out to engage with the flywheel) is faulty and not retracting after the car starts. The starter may be able to be repaired by replacing the bendix, but if it was me, I'd just replace the whole starter motor right off the bat.

Solenoid clicks will not engage 4000KW Onan

4000 kW is a very big generator. I asume that your is 4000W = 4 kW.
If - with electrical start it should be MicroQuiet 4000.
Never mind by all types of electricaly started engines this will mean:

If by "not engage" you mean that solenoid only clicks, but neither the starter motor is turning, nor the bendix wheel is engaged to wlywheel. This may mean that battery voltage is low, in order to engage the bendix and make its power contact, or the bendix is mechanicaly blocked.
If by "not engage" you mean that solenoid clicks, the starter motor is not turning, but the bendix wheel is engaged to wlywheel. This may mean that the bendix relay power contacts are bad or starter motor collector or brushes are bad.
If by "not engage" you mean that solenoid clicks, the starter motor is turning with a scratching sound, the bendix wheel is partially or not engaged to wlywheel. This may mean that the bendix throw out lever is bent or broken, or the wheels on bendix and flywheel are worn out..

Hi, I have a bendix combo washer/drier WD1054. It's been working fine - until I inadvertently left the drier function on when doing a (too) full load. I got it to stop after a bit and thought all was OK....

Welcome to Fixya.

I`m not entirely sure if the component I`m thinking of usually has any effect on the spin, but it could be I just don`t remember. Anyway the thing I would direct you to look for is a thermal fuse.

All these unit`s ( Bendix, Kariba, Splendid, Equator etc. ) have at least one on the heater/condensor housing ( have to remove the top ) while some of the older unit`s have two.

**Safety first...turn off your breaker at the service panel preferably or unplug the unit first**

Remove the top and identify on the condensor housing the thermal fuse **see image below** and with a multimeter ohm it out.

This is not the actual bendix thermal fuse, just an image of what it will look like. I don`t even know where to get parts anymore, I used to get them from a gentleman in Calgary, Alberta, Canada by the name of **** Blanchard, but I no longer have contact info for him and I rarely work on these any longer.

If this fuse is open the heater will not function but it may also be tied into the spin cycle, but I don`t think so to my memory, unless it has the second fuse located on the harness going to the motor.

You`ll need to remove the back panel as well to trace the harness to locate the second fuse...if present at all, but the fuse used to be located near the motor at the connections.

Let me know how you make out, I`ll watch for your reply in this post.

good luck.
