Sidestand must be retracted and sidestand switch functioning or the engine dies as a safety feature to keep you from riding off with the sidestand down. If the sidestand is up and it still dies, disconnect the sidestand switch and put a jumper in there. If the problem goes away, your switch is faulty.

If the battery is good you may want to inspect the wiring towards the switches on the handle bar. These wires are grouped together, so it is likely that both component may be affected. The other item is the switches. Check for worn out wires, terminals or loose connections. Other than that have the relays tested. It may be bad relays.

Below is a guide on how to test your relay.

Heard there was a callback on many of the klr models. Problems like wireing and cables often for the lights can be fixed or changed at a local dealership for free. The problems was "solved" in later batches from the factory, thus only selected bikes with a certain serial number qualify for the free of charge fix.

Hi ,
Battery can colapse and die instantly .
Test your battery first by unplugging it and run a wire from the positive to negative and see if it spark ,
If it does nothing ...its dead
if it spark , check the main fuse .
Check all these and get back to me and if you have not found your problem i will try to give you advises

I have a 2006 klr 650 with 2450mile on it. Today I went to start the bike and nothing. At first the head light came on, then i pushed the starter button and everything went off. I check the battery and it...

The battery is dead. I suggest an AGM battery from bikebatts.com. The dual sport bikes especially can use those because they don't leak when you fall over in the dirt.

By the way there are some good dual sport sites like advrider and thumpertalk, and some good klr forums out there too.

Rough engine running

"chipped the engine"... If you have done modifications and now your engine is not running properly, remove the modifications and see if they go away. It could be any of the things you mention, but it is most likely related to the chip installation.
