Gateway 3200S will not power up.

Gateway 3200s
I shut this computer down one day (was remodeling office)
About 3 months later I tried to power it up and got nothing. Green light on motherboard lights up but nothing happens when I hit power button.

I have tried a different power supply but still get nothing.

Before this problem did you ever press the power button and the computer was unresponsive? If so the power switch behind the button could be bad. I've even seen broken wires on them. I usually just solder them back on.

How to connect power led, power sw and hdd led on a gateway 3200S mother boad?

go to the motherboard manufacturers website and download the manual. In it there will be a picture of the motherboard connectors you are talking about then just connect them. The power switch connector can go either way as there is no polarity on it.

Gateway 3200S. will not begin to power up. a green led is on at the top of the mainboard. that is the only indicator of power.

Dear Rythmickarma,
As you said the main power LED seems to be glowing but the system is not powering on... so there are few things to check here:
  1. Remove all other connections apart from Power supply, keyboard, mouse and monitor and see if that makes any difference.
  2. When the computer normally boots up there is a POST check Beep sound from CPU .. do you here any beep?
  3. When you tap on numlock key on your keyboard, do you see numlock LED toggle between ON and OFF state?
  4. Is there any signal on monitor .. When disconnected from the CPU, the monitor should show Self test signal .. does it happen?
  5. Open the chassis and check if you can feel the spinning of Hard drive...
  6. Remove the power supply cord from the back of the computer and press and hold the power button for few seconds .. this would drain the accumulated power from the CPU components .. now reconnect the power supply and see if that makes any difference..
Please try the above steps and let me know. Hope that helps.

Regards,
Srinivas

Gateway M-1625 shutting down few times a day

I am havin the same problem at the company i work at. The problem with our machines has to do with the mother boards. But you might want ot check the power supply and make sure it is rated high enough to run your system. Next check/blow out your CPU cooler, and go into bios and see if it is set up to shut off at a certain temp.
