Question about 2005 TVS Victor GX

Open Question

My headlight bulb fuses every time, out of two points in bulb, first one get fused early and after some days then second point fuses. I changed my regulator which operates this, but after that this problem occurs every now and then. I also get problems in my indicators and lights and function of speedometer, is that some wiring problem, its now 8 years old my bike, do i have to change meter wiring or full wiring of my bike....

    i too need an answer for the same. but speedometer has nothing with regulator and wiring problem it think.

First, take your battery somewhere and have it load tested. Fat Boys are tough on batteries as the battery sits in the "horseshoe" oil tank and is subjected to high temperatures due to the hot oil in the tank. Battery life is typically two years although I've seen some go longer and some not last that long. Have the battery tested before you start spending money.

To check the stator, you unplug the regulator at the engine case. Down inside the plug you'll see some electrical connectors. Connect a DVOM (digital volt ohm meter) to these connectors (one lead to eac pin) and put the meter in the 50 volt or higher range AC voltage. This is important that your meter be set to measure AC voltage because at this point, the voltage is indeed an Alternating Current voltage coming out of your alternator. Start the engine and bring it to a high idle. You should be reading over 20 volts AC. The book says that you should read 12-18 volts per 1000 engine RPM. If your engine is turning 2000 rpm, your meter should read 24-36 volts AC.

To test the regulator, first charge your battery to a full charge. Then connect your DVOM across the battery, red to positive, black to negative. Put the meter in the 20 volt DC range. Start the bike and bring it to a high idle. The voltage will start at somewhere around 12.5 volts and climb to about 14.5-15 volts. This would indicate that the regulator MAY be alright.

Now, have you changed any of the lights on your Fat Boy? I've seen people change and add lights to the point where their alternator could no longer put out the current necessary to handle the load. If this is the case, you may need a higher out charging system.

I don't know where you're located but $260 seems quite high for a voltage regulator.

How do i fix my headlight and taillight. the tail light only works when i apply my back break.

First off check your lighting fuse.

If the lighting fuse is good then check to see if the brake light element of that bulb is lighting alone or if the running lite element is also. If the second, the running lite element is not lighting try a new bulb. If they are both lighting check to see if the bulb is a one element bulb, not a two element bulb and if it is a two element bulb see if it is installed correctly. If all of this is good you will have to start wiring diagnosis. A voltage drop test will be a good way to diagnose this at that point.

Then move on to the headlight and see if it is good or bad and if it is good then diagnosis of the wiring etc there will be next. Again a voltage drop test will be a good way to diagnose this at that point

How do I diagnose why one of my headlights will not work?

the h 7 bulb is a quartz halogen bulb and if touched with the bare fingers has an extremely short life
you have to use gloves when handling the bulbs as the oil from the fingers reacts with the glass when in use and blows the bulbs
they will also blow from bad/ loose ground points and if allowed to arc ( as in welding ) will fail quickly
you should get 12 volts to both bulbs at one terminal while the other is the grounding wire
check for problem relays in the power wire

Hello,In those early years of the new body style the high beems are your day time driving lights also,, check for a relay instead of fuse,may need to change switch,i had to in my 97 with that problem..good luck..

i would change the headlight because if one side of the bulb lights up that means that the lower beam is bad or just check your fuse you may have two fuses to that connection

2000 gmc sierra the headlights wont come on unless i hit the steering column how do i fix this

The fuse is a good start. The headlight may also have a relay, which may be in another box similar to the fuse box. Check the fuse before the bulbs - it's more likely that a single fuse would blow, than both headlights blowing at once. the switch. Not sure where this is located on your car (dashboard? blinker column?) but that's another single point of failure that could explain both lights malfunctioning at once. check the fuses for the headlights, and the headlamp relay first. good-day !

I have a 2001fxdwg2. The other day I climbed on it without turning off my alarm. Alarm went off. The headlight quit at that point. The high beam indicator is on all the time. Bulb is good and all fuses...

not sure if this will work but try disconnecting the battery (neg first) leave it set for 10 minutes then reconnect(neg. last)
sometimes this will reset the computer

Headlights work but not taillights. Only Passenger taillight works when you step on the brake

start by changing your tail light bulbs ( with the correct bulbs) and check the ground points for the lamp assemblies. are fuses ok?

Blown front headlight on a toyota 4runner 1993 hilux 4x4. How do I get to it to change it? Is it a sealed unit or just a bulb replacement?

In most cars they are just bulbs. On the driver side, if the battery is located on this side, you may need to remove this to get to it. It is a good idea, and suggested to disconnect the battery anyway when dealing with any type of electrical repair.

Once you remove the battery, look behind the headlight and you'llsee the backing of the light, and the back of the bulb socket. There will be two or three wires (usually two) that come out of it.

Turn the socket counter clockwise to unscrew it from the insertion point, and lightly pull out. Do the same for the bulb, or some just pull out and push in.

Put new bulb in, and turn the socket clockwise to tighten in place.

Put battery back in, hooking up the ground first, then the positive. Turn key (or lights on if they work without the key on) and run on headlights.

If it comes on, you're good to go. If not, on some vehicles, when one light goes out, it affects other, however this is usually not common for headlights.

If it does not come on, check the fuse in the fuse box under the dash (or sometimes in the glove compartment) as well as any relays or fuses under the dash in the black box near the battery.

On either the top of the cover for both fuse locations, or the inside of the cover you will see a diagram indicating which fuse is linked to certain components. Find any that are linked to the headlamps (headlights) and other lighting components, i.e. turn signals, tail lights, etc as each will sometimes have seperate fuses, but the wiring is linked at some point.

Passenger side headlight assembly inop. high and low beam bulbs good. fuses good. is there a relay? is so where is it

If only one headlight isn't operative, your fuse and bulbs are ok, then check for proper grounding at the headlight assembly.
There should be a black wire that comes from the headlight assembly and is attached somewhere at a good grounding point.
You can have power to the lamp, but if you don't have a solid ground connection, it won't light up.
