I want to remove the valve cover to adjust the

I want to remove the valve cover on my 1980 Suzuki Gs 450 S to adjust the valves but I don't know how to get the round, chrome caps off of the ends. Is it necessary to remove them? Do they just pry of with a screwdriver? I started to pry one off and noticed what appeared to be two fasteners. I can't tell if they are being held on by the fasteners or if they are just a tight fit.

    I got one off. They are held by two Phillips head screws. I used a "Z" shaped screwdriver (similar to an allen wrench). It took forever and I was hoping that I would not have to put it back on in the same way. After getting one of the caps off, I was able to see that it is not necessary to remove them to remove the valve cover. They are purely cosmetic. The good news is that once I get the valve cover off, I can easily put the crome cap back on with a regular screwdriver.

I need to replace my Petcock valve on my 1980 Suzuki GS 750 L. I don't know how to replace it. I bought one off of a local bike store called Vicious Cycles Service and it doesn't look like any of...

!980 gS750l HAS A SCREW HEAD TYPE PETCOCK. IT LOOKS LIKE THE LEVEL IS MISSING BUT THAT IS THE STOCK PIECE. TWO SCREWS HOLD THE PETCOCK TO THE TANK. REMOVE THOSE AND THE PETCOCK BASICALLY FALLS OFF. YOUR NEW ONE SHOUILD HAVE AT LEAST THE SAME BASE WITH THE SAME DISTANCE BETWEEN THE SCREW HOLES.

My gs 750 is cutting out when you give it gas at the start,it bogs out then gets going

Either your fuel valve is not all the way open, or your fuel filter is clogged.
The valve is closed when sideways (parrallel to the ground) and open when straight up and down.
As for the filter, you may have to remove it to remove the debris. Then use fuel cleaner to remove and build up in the lines.

Adjusting cam chain on 1980 susuki gs motocycle neen to know the proper proseedure to acjust chain

there should be no adjusting cause it is spring loaded .. if you have after market adjuster ! take the side cover off . you want to turn the crankshaft by hand . once you have done this . then have the nut free on the adjuster .roll crankshaft around wile hand tightening the adjuster .. you only want it hand tight. then tighten the nut . if you still hear chain slap ! tighten another 1/4 turn .. and that should be it !!

Fuel leaking passed the carbs into cylender on 1980 gs 1100 L suzuki. i have the carbs out, i want to know what i need to do to fix.

are you turning the fuel valve off if bike sits for more than one hour?? the valve should not let fuel flow in the run position (straight up and down), if it does the fuel tank valve is defective, the valve is only supposed to let fuel flow when engine vacuum is present, had this same bike so very sure on this. U can rebuild the valve with new O rings.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Almost always, your described problem would be the float needle not closing the inlet seat. This could be caused by a dirt, sand, contaminant, worn needle ends, grooves on the seat. Unfortunately, the only fix would be to pull down the carbs again and redo. Considerations are:
  • ensure the pointed end of the float needle are not nicked, worn, necked, scratch;
  • ensure that the inlet seat are perfectly round and smooth. You may need a very very fine abrasive material and a Q-tip or cotton buds and do a bit of lapping ( almost similar to valve grinding);
  • ensure the float height is correctly adjusted;
  • verify float is not punctured with fuel sloshing inside.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
