Question about 2002 Honda XR 200

1 Answer

Honda xr 200 will not spark/fire...

Yesterday, I was out riding my Dirt-bike and it was running great. Shifting correctly, etc. Then, the next day I accidentally ran into a truck not paying attention. Now, I went out to try to start it again and it won't start. I've sat on it for 15 minutes straight trying to get it started. So I decided to check everything. It had gas, Spark plug was fine, oil was good, choke was on, Fuel was on, etc. I took the spark plug out and put it into it's sleeve and put it on the engine to check if I was getting a spark. Kicked it a few times, Nothing. So, I got another spark plug, Brand new one to be in fact and still have no spark at all. Please help...

You broke the stator, inspect it for damage.

Why wont my bike start when it gets hot ?....

Hi, Stacey and the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ignition coil.
2. Faulty spark plug cables.
3. Faulty temperature sensor.
4. Faulty starter motor.
5. Valves adjusted too tight.
6. Spark plug gap too wide.
7. Fuel has vapor lock.

I ride a 1986 shadow 500 with 32000 miles. recently it started acting up. the rear cylinder cuts out as i ride and it can last for several miles before it picks back up. At the same time, the RpM display...

You need to check for spark when the back cylinder is not firing to see if that is the problem...from there it will be easier to troubleshoot...also check for vacuum leaks.

I have a Honda XR400 dirt bike and am having trouble starting it, its got compression, spark, have fully stripped an cleaned carbareter, has fuel have tryed crash starting it an it does want to fire any...

I have a 2003 XR 400 that I bought in 2005 nearly new (seller was more of an MX guy than trail guy). Thing was HARD to start no matter the conditions; hot day or cold day, sea level or 7000', dry or wet. Once I tired myself out completely and got it running, it would restart ok, but still always a challenge. After months of gritting it out, I followed the advice of everyone online. I bought a pumper carb. Don't even screw around with getting just the right jets, or all the other stuff you've already done. You bolt on the carburetor that the bike should have shipped with and you'll be one or two kicks from a nice run/idle/ride. I ride literally from sea level to 5000' with zero issues. I ride at 7000' no issues. Seriously, It was the best ~$350 I ever spent.

no air required. the air valve on top is to release pressure after heavy pumping. ie motorcross... check seals. you can run a feala gauge inside seal to clean dirt out or replace if worn. put in correct amount of oil an off you go....

1987 Honda XR 250 R will not stay running after it warms up

Hi, Rrheston your bike starts great when cold but once it reaches operating temperature and the engine is shut off for a few minutes then you try to restart it and it will turn over but will not fire or it doesn't do anything, the usual suspects are:
1. When electronics get hot they build up resistance then stop working. It might be an ignition coil, stator, CDI unit etc. First, you must find out if the spark dies out. When the bike won't start, pull a plug wire off, stick a new spark plug in the end and ground the threads on bare metal while someone cranks the engine over. You should see a nice big blue spark between the spark plug gap. Incorrect spark plug gap will cause or contribute to a no start when hot issue.
2. Fuel Tuners have been known to cause this type of problem, disconnect it and see if resolves the issue.
3. Any engine management sensor could be faulty especially the ones that monitor temperature.
4. Gas cap not venting properly, improperly routed fuel lines they must always go down from the gas tank to the carburetor never in any kind of a loop this will cause a vapor lock. Clogged, bent, kinked, pinched or restricted carburetor vent lines will do the same.
5. Overhead camshaft valves adjusted too tight when cold, this will cause loss of compression when hot, except for pushrod engines they usually get looser when hot.

I got blue smoke coming out of my tail pipe on 200 xr honda 4 stoke dirt bike

This is engine oil burning ,I bet it smells oily. The valve guide seals under the rocker cover are worn ,or the piston rings are worn and poss the bore on such a old bike this is common. If you have little money just keep going ,the spark plug will eventually fail, Or you will need to restore your engine with a strip and rebuild.New seals, rings and check bore piston tolerance .

Lower

If it has a mono shock in back there are lowering links you can purchase and install to lower the rear and the front can be lowered by dropping the tubes in the trees or softening up the springs.
I would like to make a suggestion though...
If you lower the bike the suspension will not work as it was designed to.
This is an issue I am trying to overcome with my boy since we have moved to a bigger bike- he can not touch the ground without leaning the bike WAY over. To quote a famous short moto cross racer from the 70's- "they dont pay me to put my feet down". Even I at 6' 2" find it difficult to rest both feet on the ground on some of the newer dirt bikes. But if I do find one that I can rest both feet on the ground comfortably I soon find that I am bottoming out the suspension and riding over the limits of the bike.
This is just my personal opinion... I would rather ride a tall off road bike and have the suspension at hand than ride one thats comfortable at rest and not have that suspension when I need it. Unless you are going to be stopping at a bunch of stop signs then ride it the way it is or get a smaller bike ( maybe a 125).
