Question about 2005 Harley Davidson FXD - FXDI Dyna Super Glide
I have a new 2009 FXDF Dyna Fat Bob 96 cubic inch engine and when I did a cold check on the oils dip stick it was below the add mark maybe 1/8th on an inch showing. I warmed up the bike for a hot check and it was hardley readable. The book says it takes 2.4 liters of oil and I put 3/4 of a liter in it so that means there was about 1.4 liters left in the bike counting the filter as well prior to me adding. Did I hurt the bike or do damage in your estimation by going so low? The bike is new and my first Harley it has only 2346 km on it. Thanks for any advice.
No, in my opinion there was no harm done to the engine. if the dipstick had oil on it when you checked it, then its fine. any time you change oil and filter, let the bike idle until its hot then shut it down and wait a couple minutes and then check oil level.. and add if necessary.
