I have had this problem for the second time on 2008 MT-03. It just died on
my 2 months ago, when I wanted to ride back home from work. Symptoms:
it felt like the battery was dead. I checked it, it was not. Since it
was still under warranty, the Yamaha dealer picked it up, picked it
apart in the shop and came with the explanation that the central
grounding point of the electrical circuit was corroded and therefore,
no electricity could flow, explaining lack of ignition. They 'fixed' it
free of charge.
Yesterday, WHILE DRIVING on the motorway in Belgium,
my MT-03 just totally dies on me. No more combustion, engine
totally dead, no more head lights, no more dashboard. I managed to come
to a stop without bailing but I could not start it again: same problem
as 2 months ago. I have lost my trust in this machine, I think it
suffers from some serious problems.
Looking at the posts on this forum, I can see I'm not the only one.
Took it to a motorcycle service, apparently the positive and negative line of battery were loosen cause of vibrations, also they fixed 2 wires they thought were prone of fasle contact dont ask wich cause i dont know.Took it to a motorcycle service, apparently the positive and negative line of battery were loosen cause of vibrations, also they fixed 2 wires they thought were prone of fasle contact dont ask wich cause i dont know.

Unless you know how to replace the on button, I don't think there is much you can do. You need some skills, to open electronic devices, in a way you can put it back together in one piece.
Could be a spring in the switch is broken or the contacts are defect. But you have to open it to see what is wrong, so you can replace the defective part. Be aware it can be difficult yo get spare parts. Don't know what a new one with brand new maps will cost, but there are great (cheap) ones on the market now. Check that too. Success..
I am no expert, but I just had a similar problem. The car would shake and buck when accelerating. It finally just died and would not start. After sitting for some time, the car would start and run a while, then do the same thing. I thought fuel pump. The dealer diagnosed distributor. After replacing, the car is running perfect. Something to think about. Good luck.
try replacing the coil, my 2.5 did the same thing, and after changing plugs, wires, distributor, rotor, rotor button . the last thing i repalced was the coil and i have not had an issue since. all work was done about 6 months ago.
