Just need to know where the drain plug is on 2003 1200 sportster-friend lost her manual

For the oil? On the oil tank you will see tubes coming off the bottom of the tank, there is two one to the motor and one will drop almost straight down. follow the tube and you will see the plug. most times it will sit right behind the tranny on the rh side of the bike. don't worry about the motor holds little oil and the tranny is separate and holds its own oil.

Cam installation

Cam installation requires a partial disassembly of the Sporty's motor and as Sportsters have 4 cams!!! the camshafts have "timing" marks and this procedure is critical to proper engine operation. I urge you to consult a factory H-D service manual or qualified individuals before attempting to do engine/performance work as many clearances and tolerances will HAVE to be checked and verified.

I can't tell you for sure since I don't have a parts book. But, if you told the dealer exactly what model Sporty you have, he should have ordered the correct part. I'd take it back.

Best oil for the primary and secondary?

I don't know what you are referring to when you say "secondary". The best engine oil is the H-D Syn3 20W50 oil. You can use most any oil you want as long as it has the proper API rating. I think Harley requires a "C" rating on their oil for use in diesel engines.

For the "primary" case and transmission, I use H-D Primary lube for Sportsters if I can find it. Harley had changed over to another name for the Sportster oil.

Now, there are several other manufacturers of lubricants that are suitable for use in your Sporty. Manufacturers like Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mobil, and a few others. You'll have to go to their websites to get a list of what to use where.

1996 Sporty Sport Oil Leak

Without seeing the bike its really hard to tell but It could be leaking from a sensor (crank position?) and that would just require a new gasket or O-ring. If its your case halves leaking then you are talking a major tear down which could cost $800 to $1200 dollars not including whatever parts they find need replacing.

I have 2000 xlh sportster 1200 the bike idles fine runs fine but will shut off when oil guage reaches a little over 150 degrees any ideas

It sounds electrical and as it's a Sporty, I suggest a temperature-related dry joint opening up in the wiring. One popular candidate would be the earthing strap. It's worth checking continuity with a VOM when engine is hot. It may have a vibration crack. 66C is quite cool for a sportster oil temperature, so I guess you have this problem on every long ride? Good Luck.
