Question about 2005 Suzuki Boulevard S83

1 Answer

Starter won't engage.

Tried to start and ran the bat down or at least thought that I had as the starter would not engage. I have recharged the bat and now it won't even try to turn over. The headlight is bright and goes dim when I try to engage the starter. Checked the fuses and they were Ok.

No it doesn't click or try in anyway to engage. I did check the lead to the casing on the starter and there wasn't any continuity so I don't think it's burned up.

Problem fixed. I checked all you mentioned and then found the starter interlock at the cluch handle had come unplugged and was causing all my problems. Thanks for you help.

How long did you hold the starter engaged while you were trying to start it? if you held it for a while you burnt your starter up. Or your starter could have just locked up. i had had a few do that. oh, one more question, does it click when you press the start button?

ok check for power at the positive battery side of the starter solenoid. if you have power there it could be the wire going to the starter switch to the solenoid, the solenoid itself, or the starter wire

The symptoms described may indicate a bad starter. First check all connections from the battery to ground and from the battery to starter You may want to have the starter tested at Advance Auto or Auto Zone. It will need to be removed from the mower, and I am not sure if Auto Zone, Advance Auto can test small mower starters. They test the starter under load, so if you remove the starter and hook it up to a battery, it will run probably, but it will not indicate whether the starter is good or bad. It needs to be tested under load. Good luck.....

Doesnt want to even attempt to start the battery is good

Try tapping the starter with a hammer while someone bumps the key. If it tries to turn replace starter if nothing happens then i would say the starter solenoid is probably bad.

Yep, not enough amps to engage the starter clutch, and when ti does engage, not enough amps to turn the engine. You need a 12 amp battery.

It sounds like you have a bad actuator. This is attached to the starter and has a solonoid that pushes the starter motor gears into the engine gear. If the solonoid is faulty this may happen. Also check alignment of the same.

2002 gmc 1500 sierra starter clicks but wont turn over. Have checked fuses, charged battery, tried jump starting all it does is you can here solinoid click but starter wont turn. I did turn heater fan on...

Replace the starter, the solenoid cant engage the starter because it is locked up, hence the extreme voltage drop with the fan when you try to start it with the fan on.

Hi,
Could just be time for a new battery. Take the car to Autozone or WalMart and have the battery load tested. Also have them check alternator output. This will tell you if you need to replace the battery or if you have a recharging problem.....The slow grinding from the starter indicates low battery voltage, not enough to fully engage starter...Mike

F 150 starts and starter stays engaged unplug alternator starts ok but no charge

2 problems, first you have bad starter or starter relay for starter staying engaged, keep alt plugged in has nothing to do with starter staying engauged, to test starter relay, jump at relay bat + post with red/bk wire on solonoid, if cranks over without staying engaged, then not relay or starter but rather in your ign switch, ford had bad problems with ign switch some years ago doing that

starter wont click because there's not enough "juice" to turn it over. this isnt because of the battery as you have just replaced it. it is due to a bad alternator recharging the battery as you drive. if it were only a fuse it would be the solenoid in the starter. but if it had started after you installed the battery then its not the solenoid. solution: buy a refurbished alternator and

Motor not starting

Double check all of your ground wires from the battery to the engine and body. Also have the battery checked. Even if the starter was bad, the voltage while cranking should not drop down to 2 volts.
