Underneath the engine are a pair of shocks with internal coil springs. You need a spaner wrench available at the dealer to screw in the collars to tighten up the springs. Make sure you tighten them as a pair 2 or three turns till you have the ride you like.

My soft tail rides really stiff on rough roads. What can I do to soften the ride. Seems like the front forks are stiff. Just had shocks serviced.

As far as the rear suspension, a softtail won't ride a smooth as one with a swingarm, as the softtail has less travel.

On the front end, Harley has three different "thicknesses" of fork oil, light, medium, and heavy, which gives different suspension dampening.

If the front forks are too stiff, you could try a lighter fork oil.

The front forks on my 2000 harley davidson fatboy are too soft how do i stiffin them up a little

When was the last time the fork oil was changed? Has there been any leaks? Loss of oil will cause the forks to go soft.

I have a 2006 softtail deluxe I have had it since it was brand new. I am a new rider have only had my license since 2006 needless to say I don't know that much about motorcycles. My husband on the other...

I would measure the battery voltage with the engine runnig at a fast tickover and then say 2000 revs. If it exceeds 14 volts it is cooking your battery. Replace the regulator.
Ride safe and enjoy.

Adjusting twin cam back shocks the best setting

There is no single "best setting". It depends on you and your riding style. Heavier riders sometimes need a stiffer suspension. Same goes with those that do a lot of "Two Up" riding. Some riders seem to prefer a stiffer suspension because of their riding style. While others want the nice soft ride. The adjustment of the shocks is a personal type adjustment. Just try different positions under different conditions until you find the best for you.

Good Luck

When I ride my 2000 fatboy my speedometer doesn't

Try inside the tach on the connector. But also remove your speed sensor on the transmission and clean it. They pick up metal chips from the trans and short out. Also, HD had a bunch of bad speedos around your year. They replaced them for free. Doubtful they will replace yours at this late date. You might end up buying a new speedo.

Where and what fluids to check, also type to use and basic adjustments.i ride hard and dont have time to let my sled sit in a shop.

The Haynes Shop manuals are God sends. www.haynes.com They have everything you need and then some to be able to tear down and rebuild your bike and maintain it through the years. tend to be about $40 but are worth hundreds if you ask me.
