Question about 1996 kawasaki VN 1500 Vulcan Classic

2 Answers

Pops out of 1st gear under acceleration.

The bike will pop in and out of gear while accelerating in first gear. While cruising in first it's fine. I thought it might be worn dogs on the gears but usually in that case when a bike pops out of gear it stays in neutral. I cannot find anyone who wants to work on it so it looks like I'm going to have to tear it apart myself. Is there anything particularly tricky about this bike/transmission?

Hi Buddy
There is not an easy solution to your gearbox problem,it is general wear on the 'dogs' or 'shift drum'..The only other thing it could be is wear on the 'external shift mechanism'.
I,ve just rebuilt a 1996 vn1500 classic whitch had the same problem so if you need any advise or step by step photos please email me at 'pjuma@hotmail.co.uk'

If your clutch is not slipping check your shift linkage joints. Rocking the bike lets you know your tranny has gears but the shifter pawl may need adjustment

V star 650 pops out of 5th gear into 4th gear around 55 mph

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Shifter pawl improperly adjusted.
2. Shifter drum improperly adjusted or damaged.
3. Shifter engaging parts/dogs badly worn or rounded.
4. Shifter forks bent.
5. Damaged gears.

P38 misfires and pops when hot

it is possible that you have access carbon buildup around your valves or on top of the Pistons that gets hot and on cruise causes the engine to misfire. It is also possible that you have some water in the mix that is forced through under normal conditions that under cruise conditions is causing problems also.

1st gear pops out on my mercedes benz 416 cdi with sprintshift gearbox when the car is accelerating

The sycroniser is not meshing the gears all the way. So in turn when under pressure it slips out.

Bike will not idle long pops on acceleration

Your bike has 4 carbs and they are not in sync with each other. This requires hooking a gauge to each carb individual and adjust till each one is exactly the same as the next. The imbalance can be from mis adjustment of just dirty carbs. You will also have balance problems if any cylinder gets lower compression.
