Cruises fine for 30 minutes then starts to lose power and backfir

I own a 1995 honda shawdow VT1100 ace and after I cruise for 20-30 minutes I lose power, starts to backfire and forces me to pull over, after it starts to idle again smoothly I can start back out and go for another 3-5 minutes and the cycle repeats itself. If I go into a town and just run around in the first 3-4 gears it seems alright. The bike only has 2,400 miles on it, I bought it last fall with only 1350 miles and since spring I've riden another 350 miles and now this has started. Thanks for any help yo can give, Jerry honda 1100 ace has power runs well backfires out exahaust when decelerating

Check the wires on your coils and cdi boxes. are any parts (coil or cdi box) hot? Also I would check the ohms on the coils. You can look up how to do this for your particular bike. Flushing the fuel system can help also. Has it sat for any length of time? Try unplugging the gas line at various points and see if you have good flow. hope this helps you out.

Check the fuel system, see if you have a clogged filter or sock (behind the pet-****). You can also check the plugs too. They should be around 7k OHMS. Either your loosing spark or fuel.

2006 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100 oil pressure issues

Hi, Anonymous you may have a faulty sending unit to check for normal engine oil pressure, make sure the engine oil level is between the add and full marks on the dipstick. Remove the oil pressure sending unit, located on the right engine case, behind the oil filter mounting bracket, and replace/plum/or rig with a known good mechanical gauge that reads 0 to 40/50 lbs. Start the engine and run it until the engine oil reaches the normal operating temperature of 230 degrees. At 1,000 RPM, the oil pressure should be 2 to 4 lbs. at 2,000 RPM the oil pressure should be 30 to 38 lbs. My 1998 Honda shadow keeps blowing the main 30 amp fuse as soon as you hook up the battery. Any suggestions

Hi, Steven you have a dead short which is usually the easiest to find. Using a test light connected to the hot side of the blown fuse holder, start probing the wire leaving the fuse holder about an inch away the test light should illuminate, keep probing towards the ignition switch until the test light no longer illuminates you are now very close to the short. I have a 1997 vt1100 american classic, does all the vt 1100 use the same batterys.

If the american classic is the ACE model, 1995 - 2000 is the same and 2001 -2007 is the same, there are officially 18 different vt1100 models, the shadow spirit 1985 - 1997 is the same, 1998 - 2000 are the same and 2001 - 2007 are the same.

Cruises fine for 30 minutes then starts to lose power and backfir

Drain the carburetors. There should be a screw on the lower side of each carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, (not all bikes have a water trap bowl). Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carbs to fill with gas. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetors from the engine.

carb > Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the carb and spray into the screw holes as well.
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two adjusters down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Before putting the slides back in the throat of the carbs, Install an in-line fuel filter. Also, sync the carbs such that the slides on both carbs move at the same exact instant when the gas is slowly increased from idle speed. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. This process should get you back on the road.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!
