Are the carbs properly adjusted?
Also take out the exhaust canister and check the cylinder exhaust port for dirt (burnt oil residue)

I have a 1986 yamaha virago 1100..when I first start the bike and put it into gear it dies out...when I rev it to 7000 rpm it goes into gear and is fine for the day until the next day

Hi, Floyd and the usual suspects are:
1. Idle circuit and transfer ports clogged.
2. Air fuel mixture adjustment too lean.
3. Pilot jet clogged.
4. Faulty accelerator pump.
5. Float level too low.
6. Float bowl contaminated old fuel, water, dirt, rust, etc.
7. Float bowl vent or overflow tube clogged.
8. Fuel flow to carburetor restricted.
9. Intake manifold leak.

Can't Start 1981 Yamaha SR250

find a running sr 250 and swop his cdi unit with yours if the bike runs, fine. if not put his cdi back in and try again. if the good bike now starts it will indicate that your cdi is faulty. the cdi is located under the tank inside the frame. don't buy a second hand cdi unless you can test it on a working bike. they are very expensive and you don't want to buy a dud

My 98 model rgv won't go faster then 70kmh and it's losing power only doing 4000rpm at that speed wat could be wrong

Sounds like you have a carberator issue at this point. Bike is not getting enough fuel. Good luck and have a great day. HDTV GURU JAY

Now power in gears 4 or 5.

hi,you might find that the bike is top speed limited, the way that the manufacturer achieves that is to limit the rpm in the top two gears hence only reaching a given top speed, the only way to fix that is to generally replace the cdi unit with an unrestricted version,or in some cases the manufacturer or alternatively accessory shops can supply the derestrictor..hope this helps,,cheers

RGV 250 m Backfire

Could be a crack in the boot between the carb and the head. this cracks usually from back firing. also check the exhaust flange to ensure that it is tight. Have you checked the valve clearances lately.

Bike has no power up to 7000 rpm

check your gear ratio ie chain and sprokets if thay are to high of a ratio this will happen . as these bikes dont start to make power untill thay rev up hight . thay are tuned for top end revs and speed

Lost of power

sounds like you need to refit carburator w/ a larger main jet to richen that cicuit at approx.7/8 to wide open throttle. this is very often necessary when switching from stock to aftermarket hi- flow exhaust system.
