Question about 1996 Suzuki GSX 750 F (Katana)

My suzuki gsxr 750 loses power with new batteries

I have put my bike in the shop numerous times. I just had the carbs cleaned and they told me I needed a new battery (which was fairly new.) I went and bought a brand new battery and the bike fell dead after about 45 minutes. What's going on with the charging system? I understand that bikes don't have alternators so what can I do?

Gsxr 750 shoots flames

If the bike was running correctly when it was put in storage two years ago, I would start with the easy things first: As the previous poster suggested, install new, correctly gapped plugs, along with a new battery. Your bike uses an electronic ignition system, and it will not opporate correctly if you have a bad battery. The bike will miss, pop, and backfire, because there is not enough electrical power in storage (battery) to properly run the ignition system.

If these two things do not get the bike running correctly you will need to look at the carbs. Was the bike stored with fuel in the tank and carbs? If so, this is the most likely reason for the bike not wanting to run correctly. Flames from the exhaust are an indication of a very rich fuel/air mixture (a float could be stuck open (it can also be caused by the ignition not working properly and allowing unburnt fuel into the exhaust system)). Cleaning and reassembling mulitple carborators is not that difficult if you are careful and reasonably handy, but tuning them properly can be very difficult. You can save a lot of money if you rebuild them yourself, then take the bike to the shop to be tuned (The standard service rate these days is around $75 an hour)

Hi, Sharon my gut tells me you may have a faulty battery ground cable connection to the frame or engine case or your starter relay, starter solenoid, starter motor are being given last rites for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Suzuki, despair not, for a mere zero $0 you can download another one.

Just bought a 1993 suzuki gsxr 750. has been sitting in a garage for 2 years. we took the carbs off and cleaned them really well, changed the oil, and air filter and we added new gas. bike starts up and...

If is runs better with full choke, then the bike is lean, check for air leaks at the carb manifold, vacumn cracked hoses, non standard exhausts, perhaps the mufflers have rusted out while sitting

run a can of Seaforam in the tank..purchase from Autozone put in 1/3 to two gallons gas drive it around for at least 10 miles to insure it cleans out the whole carb system.if that doesnt work, check all carb hose fittings when bike is at idle spray some Chemtool B-12 ( also at Autozone) around the carb hoses and manifolds..if idle increses thats your problem. Caution: chemtool is very toxic wear gloves and a mask.

the carbs are proberbly blocked, you might have rust in your tank that will keep blocking, put an inline fuel filter in and get carbs cleaner, you also got a flat battery, give i little revs until it starts then adjust the idle

So have the shop fix the petcock or just buy a different one complete. Google " motorcycle salvage suzuki " and you should be able to find one there. While you are waiting for the new petcock, go to the site below and download a free service manual for your bike.

I have a 89 suzuki gsxr 750,it fires but will not run for very long,i have cleaned carbs, checked spark, clean fuel filter in tank.any ideas?

Clean the air filter and, if you have one, remove the water trap bowl on the fuel petcock and clean it. How good is the battery? Install new STOCK plugs. Bear in mind it may be time for carb kits. Other than your cleaning the carbs, the carb kits and balancing and synchronizing of the carbs are best left for the shop to do.

Check the exhaust pipes. If there is a restriction in the burned gases exiting the tailpipe then the bike will not run right, will loose power and even die if too much back pressure builds up. Disconnect the exhaust system and tick off the neighbors with a quick ride around the block without a muffler. If the engine still dies then exhaust is not likely to be the problem.

Check the compression on all cylinders. Depending on the compression, the bike may be ready for a valve job. If you pull the head for the valve job then you might as well consider re-boring the cylinders and install new pistons and rings. Bear in mind, doing a valve job and / or pistons is not recommended for the novice. The good part is that when the work is finished you will effectively have a new engine.

Please rate this solution as "FixYa" if I have answered your questions. Thanks!
