Sounds like the pin that the speedometer needle rests on at "0" got broken off. If you think you can take everything apart and fiddle some sort of improvisory repair for that pin, then jump in there and have at it. Note that needle calibration may be damaged and it will never read right again, regardless. Otherwise- new speedometer.

How do I fix speedometer that is stuck below zero?

dealer might be able to fix with the computer diagnostic tool. If there is a push button to reset odometer you can take a small wire and try and feed through the hole and raise needle above the pin. removing the instrument cluster cover is a pretty big task, if you cant find a place to insert a wire, only bypass I can suggest is drilling a tiny hole in the instrument cluster cover off to the side or top wherever the hole is least bothersome to you and then use a wire to raise above pin, after put a little clear silicone or a piece of tape over the hole to prevent dust building up inside the cluster

My speedometer doesnt work

Without key in ignition, depress and hold down the trip reset button by the speedometer until a code appears. Release button and the gauge cluster will go through a self diagnosis ( needles will move around and dash lights will blink). When needle returns to zero and lights go off, diagnosis will be completed and speedometer will be reset. Very easy fix.

Speedometer stuck below zero

Do not listen to these idiots. This vehicle has no cable, for one. It is an electronic unit. I had the same issue with my 01 Caravan. You can fix it by simply taking the instrument panel out, turn it upside down, and the the rest of the way around to bring the needle back around to the proper side. To remove the panel, there are two phillips screws under the top part of the black bezel. Then, the center part of the bottom bezel will simply lift up, revealing two more screws. Remove the black bezel by tilting the wheel all the way down and shimmy it out. There are four more screws holding the panel in. Remove these and the panel will have three plugs in the rear. Simply unplug them and remove the panel. Once you have it out, turn it clockwise slowly. This will bring the speedometer needle back to its normal position. If it does this again, i suggest replacing the output sensor on the transmission.

Speedometer is not working-- last night on the highway it keep increasing in speed until it went all the way to 120. when you start the truck it will decrease and if you continue turning on and off it...

If this is a mechanical speedometer, the return spring that pulls the needle to zero may be broken--fix is to replace the speedometer as they are sealed like a can. Check the wrecking yards for a used replacement. Hope this helps!

2001 dodge caravan speedometer

it must have taken an over 12 volt hit,you will need to remove the dash assembly, the needle will move with gravity when not powered, have the dash assembly in your hands and facing you, then flip it over so the needle starts to fall then turn the dash to keep the needle going to zero.then reinstall.
Or if you plan on keeping this van for ever,
you can drill a small hole in plastic cover of dash and insert a small wire to guide the pin back to zero.

Speedometer quit working. 80,000 miles needle

Your speedometer is fully electric and the sensor at the transmission side is not sending pulse to the computer ECU.

The part is call Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).

There are two versions.

16 bolts and 17 bolts transmission pan version.

Count the number of bolts on your transmission pan before you head for the part store.

Speedometer needle no longer gauges...

does it now rest at zero with car stopped? if it doesn't then probably the little spring called the clock spring is broken. on most cars it's pretty involved to fix this, you will have to take the dash apart to get to it. hope that helps

My speedometer intermittently fails to operate properly. Sometimes when I am idling it says I am going 20 MPH and it may stay there when I am doing 60. When the speedo malfunctions the odometer also...

loose connections would not cause it to stay at 20 when your going zero. i think something is stuck and the needle isnt moving freely. sometimes the sticker that have the numbers on it can fall away from the cluster and rub on the needle that why sometimes when you apply pressure to the trip reset it will work. the needle and odometer are also connected so once you fix the needle the odometer will work again. i would take the cover off the cluster and move the needle with your finger and feel if it sticks any where. if it is the sticker just drop a little sper glue down there, move the neelde forward and hold it down till it drys. if nothing appears to be holding it i would blow a can of air in by center of the needle to get any debris out of there.
