When I tried to star my 88 cbr 600 this morning the lights just dimmed when i hit the start button. I noticed a feul leak right above the petcock. Could that be the problem or is it probably something else. oh and i tried to jump it no help
If your battery is no good or dirty connections even a jump won't help start it.
Could also be your starter.
Check the battery and wiring 1st- much cheaper than starter.
Hope this helps you out some!!

Looking for some help got my 98 cbr 600 f3 a week ago parked it at my grams it rained bike fell over neutral light wont come on and won't try to start with the kick stand down please help
I've used Vp racing fuels 100 octane in my 88 CBR 600 f1 Hurricane.. only because i ran out of gas at the track when i was racing, but at $8 dollars a gallon, I'll bring my own next time..! and i didn't notice a thing, but i do notice a major difference when i use 87 as opposed to 91 which my bikes frame info says use only 91 or higher octane only! i could have also used 110 octane right next to it but it cost even more...look racing fuel at tracks are mainly for low compression race engine that will have turbocharged engines in them eg 9:1 ratio 110 octane 10:1 100 octane 11:1 95 octane 12:1 91 octane. higher octanes in a higher compression ratio will sometimes make it difficult to start so dont go real high!
After you start the bike put the headlight on high beam. Rev the engine and the light should get a bit brighter. If it stays the same or dims the battery is discharging.
If you have a meter, take off the seat and start the bike. Place the meter in DC Voltage mode and place the red probe on the + side of the battery and the - probe on the negative side. It should read 12v to 14v. Start the bike. The voltage should rise to over 13V or at least higher than it read when the bike is not running. If you rev the engine the voltage should also rise a 1/2 volt or so.
If the voltage remains the same or decreases you have a charging problem. Here are the two most likely fixes.
Tighten the battery connections. The rectifier is not working. It is located on the right rear of the bike under the seat fairing. The rectifier converts the AC voltage coming out of the alternator to DC voltage which is what the battery needs to stay charged.
