1999 road king wont start

1999 harley road king wont start . Fuel pump noise was present pulling out the garage and after cleasning the bike i went to start it up and the fuel pump noise was not heard. Bike cranks fine but will not fire up. Checked fuses (all fine) Does the fuel pump operate by one of the 4 relays? Also noticed that engine light that comes on while pressurising fuel system after a few minutes blinks about 15 times quickly over and over. What could be the problem? Bike ran fine before this.

Its your fuel pump if you can't hear it. And its inside your tank. Not a hard fix if you have a book that tells you how to remove it. Alot of procedures to follow to get it right. And yes it does work off a relay.

Sounds like the fuel pump has stopped working. You may have to take it to a dealership to check for trouble codes.

Check to see if there is power in the wires going TO the fuel pump, if there is power there then you know it is a problem with the pump.

When you cleaned the bike did you use a high pressure hose? If so you may have squirted water accidently where it does not belong, be very careful when using high pressure when washing your bike, especially around the whell bearings, neck bearings, injectors/carb, intake etc.

You could check your relays for dead short with a meter but I dont think thats your problem, sounds to me like your fuel pump just stopped working and needs to be replaced.

Hi Chewie159, 1992 and later touring models, fuel pump fuses and relays will be behind the right side panel, everything else will be behind the left side panel to access fuses pull back on the front two locking tabs and slide the cover up. Good luck.

I have a 2005 Harley Road King Custom. With ignition switch on, I have horn, brake lights and instrument light. I don't hear fuel pump, turn signals don't work; headlight doesn't work and

Hi Mark, I would start by checking fuses first located behind the left side panel. Then check for continuity at your system/fuel pump relay also in that same general area, check the connection at the turn signal module and for continuity at the ignition switch and your high/low beam switch. This is assuming of course that your security alarm has been disabled. for more information on your question please visit the websites below and good luck:

Fuel in tank, got spark but will not fire without starting fluid sprayed to intake

Sounds like you're not getting fuel for some reason. If your bike is equipped with a carburetor, the fuel petcock may not be opening properly. In 1996, Harley went to a vacuum operated fuel petcock. The diaphragms in these valves goes bad and will not allow fuel to flow from the tank to the carb. Pull the fuel line loose from the petcock and try to start the engine. You should see a good flow of fuel from the valve. If not, check to make sure the vacuum line is connected to the backside of the valve. If so and you still have no fuel flow, you have a bad petcock. If the bike is fuel injected, you'll probably have to take it to a shop. I have no experience with fuel injected bikes. It could be a bad fuel pump in the tank or something else. Fuel injection is out of my expertise level. I work on the older bikes that the dealers will no longer work on. I hope this helps a little.

Good Luck
Steve

My 2001 road king will not start, check the coil the coil is good 12v going to the coil check good, and fire to the plugs good,,but the fuel pump sounds a little noisy, any ideal...... what to do next...

If that fuel pump is on its last leg, it might not be putting out enough pressure to operate the injectors. If you know how to connect a pressure gauge, safely, do it to learn what it is putting out. If you aren't sure about how to do it, most dealers will pick up the bike free of charge. Or, pull the tank and install a new pump.

But be careful, gasoline can be dangerous stuff.

What year fenders and EFI gas tank are interchangable with my 1999 roadking?

all year flt fenders, fuel tank must be for a road king,97-99. 2000 M.Y. the fuel pump changed. The tank will physically fit but the pump assembly inside is different.I believe the frames changed in 97 so 96 earlier wont bolt up.

1999 road king won't start after cleaning

you need to check the wiring going up under the dash to the switch. The iginition switch has a 3 post push on connector. The RKs are good for the plug to slip back and not make connection.
