The factory fill is 4.3 litres. Thats new empty lines...etc.
3.75 to 3.9 quarts is a normal drain.
Heres a link for the complete service manual on the VTX 1800C
It's a big download about 50MB in PDF format
Hope this helps...ride safe and ride smart.

Hello, my 2004 Honda VTX 1800 after heats up on low speed the engine shuts down. What it could be?

Hi, Martynas and the usual suspects are:
1. Engine oil level and SAE weight are too low or not circulating.
2. Insufficient or blocked air flow over the engine.
3. Heavy combustion chamber carbon deposits.
4. Ignition timing retarded due to faulty MAP, CKP, or CMP sensor.
5. Carburetor jetted too lean.
6. Leaking intake or exhaust valve.
7. Water coolant old or low change every two years.
8. Water pump failure.
9. Radiator clogged, cap loose or malfunctioning.
10. Radiator fans not coming on.
11. Clutch slipping, brakes dragging, heavy load, towing a trailer etc.
12. Idling too long without moving.
13. For constant hot weather temperatures, mountain, or desert riding conditions consider adding an oil cooler and or cylinder head cooler.

Some timesI can't shift into 1st or neutral only will kick up to 2nd. With the engine off i can get it to go there. I just switched to semi synthetic, never had this problem, has almost 10k miles

some bikes cannot use synthetic oils. or it could be that the clutch is not set up properly. I would check with the dealer for proper oils first. a phone call will let you know. good luck.
