Question about 2002 Honda VT 1100 C Shadow Spirit

2 Answers

Mine is an 04 Sabre. Everything was fine with it, I parked it, I went to start it and got nothing. The headlight does not come on when I turn the key either. I have checked the fuses and they are all hot. It has a brand new battery. I can directly jump start it by going from battery to starter with the kickstand down, in neutral and with the starter switch on but still no headlight. Obviously it is past the fusebox. and I presume the kickstand switch is good along with the kill switch and I would guess the neutral switch is working also since it started with the hot jump. Could it be the starter switch? Does that have anything to do with the headlight? I do have directional, markers and instrument lights. Help I am desperate to get on the road again!

2005 Honda Shadow - same thing. Stopped for gas and bike wouldn't start. Checked fuses, battery etc.. Found that walking to front of bike and slowly wiggling the starter button 1/2 way the bike could be started - crazy, but cannot start with button while facing normal start direction on seat.
Seems like the start switch needs to be replaced. Not sure what's involved since cables are seated inside the switch itself.
A little annoyed that this seems to be a common problem with the Shadow/Sabres. Very tricky to find out why the bike would no longer start besides the reach around from front of bike and wiggling the button until it actually will start again. Ugggggh

Sounds like you have a bad relay switch. if you have an ohm meter or a multi meter check the relays that are past the fuses

if your battery isnt dead (try boosting it) then check to make sure the car is in park all the way and try again if nothing happens you need a new starter. alot of people dont put the shifter all the way back to park and that keeps it from starting.

Did you ever get this figured out? I have same problem on '04 V Star 1100. Started to take off from a stop sign and everything went dead. Found fuse under seat, it's good; battery is good, put on charger anyway... NOTHING electrical works when you turn on the key. HELP?!

I have a 2005 Honda Sabre vt1100 turned off motorcycle, went back to start up...no headlight and will not start with ignition switch but you can push off and crank it..no blown fuses and everything else...

You have a dirty or broken starter button on the handle bar. The button is a two position switch that turns off the headlight so more juice goes to the starter and activates the solenoid to send power to the starter. If you work carefully you can take the switch apart and clean the button. If cleaning solution does not fix the short you will have to replace the right hand switch assembly to fix the issue.
