Question about 2007 Suzuki GSX-R 600

With clutch engaged, as soon as I put it on gear the engine shuts

I'm puting it back together after a spill. There's no speedo installed yet, but just to test it I tried to engage it on first gear and the engine shuts down immediatelly.

Is it because the Speedo is not in yet? or is there a problem with the clutch/gearbox?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Check, bypass (or replace) the sidestand switch. This would be especially so if the connector is not connected or if the bike laid on its left side.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

2002 yz 125 when I put it in gear it will shut off acts like the clutch is not working when I adjust it on the handle bars it slips

Mechanical issue: clutch not disengaging completely...
engine off - put in gear and roll back and forth with clutch released does engine stop the bike from rolling? Now pull clutch lever in and try rolling again is clutch cable adjusted properly?
Electrical issue: bike thinks clutch is still engaged and kills motor when not in neutral
Is the clutch switch properly connected and working? Is it adjusted properly? Use a multimeter to read resistance across switch contacts does it change state when clutch is pulled in?

Clutch problems

I know unless they changed the design the clutches need oil to operate properly to allow Slippage when clutch is in (handle is pulled in) Are you trying to shift by rocking the bike? It should shift with the clutch engaged (Engine not running) just by rocking the bike back and forth and operating the shifter. I do know without oil on the clutches with the engine running there will be to much force put on the gears to allow them to shift plus it is a very bad Idea to ever run an engine without oil in it. Be it a 4 Stroke or a 2 stroke.

Engine off shifts engine on grinds when putting in gear

The clutch plate can only be fitted one way. If you noticed one side of the plate has a raised section that contains springs. The other side is flat. Puting the plate the wrong way round allows the raised section to hit the heads of the flywheel bolts and this is causing the clutch to spin even though you have the foot on the clutch. Make sure you have properly bled the air from the clutch system. Mostly there is a notice printed on the clutch plate which reads like flywheel side or this side away from flywheel

You are in trouble, expect a visit from the police soon. Actually the thing is over 20 years old and you need to do the clutch, replace all the parts and resurface the flywheel. Every part on the car will fail with age and use, most likely someone did this 10 years ago or so and now it is due again. As you can most likely buy a late 90s Explorer for the same amount you are about to spend on a clutch, you may want to just upgrade vehicles a decade, however a late 90s one will be ready for a clutch itself so try and find one which has already had that done.

Speedo not working

Hate to tell you but your gonna have to redo everthing you did and recheck the speedo cable. Make sure you didn't stripe it or the gears inside the speedo and make sure its correctly installed and not kinked anywhere.
Now for the real scary part the other end of this cable goes into the transmission's output shaft. If you find that the cable's end at the speedo gauge and the gauge its self is a-ok ...then you have to inspect the cable at the tranny end and the gear it goes to. If cable is worn no big deal ( you buy a new cable and install) but if gear is worn Uh.. have to replace outputshaft on tranny to repair gear.
I'm hoping you didn't correctly install cable on speedo.
Good luck

I have a 2009 klx 250. i left it undercover outside for a few cold months. now its in a heated garage,it will star, but as soon as you put the clutch in 1 st gear it shuts off the engine. could it be...

The most likely cause is stale fuel. It is always best to drain the fuel from the float bowl before storage of more than a month or two. That way you won't be faced with possibly having to rebuild the carburetor in order to make it run again.
If the engine stalls when you drop into first gear, with the clutch disengaged, then the clutch plates are stuck together. In this case - before starting the engine, try putting the transmission in 2nd or third gear, pull the clutch in and roll the bike forward and backward a few times to free the stuck plates.
Meanwhile, fresh gasoline may be all you need.

Engine shuts down while still bike is running. and low thrust from the engine. is it clutch problem or engine problem ??

It is not likely to be a clutch problem if pulling in the clutch lever fully dis-engages the engine. If the bike wants to pull forward in first gear even though the clutch is pulled in all the way, then the clutch is not fully dis-engaged. Adjust the clutch cable. If the clutch is working properly then there is an engine problem.

If an engine problem, start by draining the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side or bottom of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. Install a new stock NGK spark plug and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the
carb and spray into the screw holes as well.
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two adjusters down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine.
