Question about 2003 Honda VTX 1300 Retro

After riding ten minutes, the bike stalls on street or highway

I try to restart every two to three minutes, so battery doesn't die. bike will finally start after 5 or more attempts. bike stalled last year several times. dealer couldn't re-create stalling problem in shop and couldn't figure out problem. tried using premium gasoline this year after getting bike out of storage and thought that solved the problem, but then took it to dealer for 36,000 mile maintenance, and problem returned. it is stalling each time i take the bike out for a ride, usually on the expressway. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I think there will be some dust or something else which stops the smooth flowing of Petrol from Fuel tank to engine.
Since its not completly blocked, its running for few kms and turning off.
This is not a strange problem.

This is exactly what my 1300 did, for TWO years. I thought I narrowed it down to the fuel cut-off relay, or fuel pump. I replaced the relay, but the new one did not help. The other thing I suspected was the fuel pump. So I just pulled out the fuel pump, and have been trouble free for over five years now. P.S.: This was after two Honda dealerships failed to find the problem.

More than likely it is the fuel filter. It is located directly under your driver's seat in front of the battery compartment. When doing this maintenance it wouldn't hurt to change or clean the air filter and check your spark plugs as well. After all, it takes air, spark, and fuel to run for an engine to run well. Good Luck!

99 FXDWG, Choke cable broke, bike stalled then wouldn't start. I fixed the choke cable but bike still won't start. Any ideas?

"Crank" and "turn over" mean exactly the same thing. I think you mean it won't "fire". How did your choke cable break on the highway? You shouldn't have been pulling (closing) the choke at that point - does that ride have other issues?

It might be flooded now - try letting it sit for several hours, then try starting with the throttle WIDE OPEN and no choke - that helps clear extra gas out of the cylinders.

You might also need to pull the spark plugs and dry them out thoroughly.

check for the pinched vacuum line at the carb,, sportys are hard to locate because they are tucked in way behind , it ay have come disconnected, unless there is a load on the motor it will idle fine, add a little load and you get the feeling no fuel is getting through unless you rev it up

Need help bike died while riding

everything working perfect. Wednesday night i was riding home from work and got about halfway home bike had a small bog while coming up for a turn onto another street pulled in the clutch and stall. Rolled to a stop and fired the magic button. The motor would turn over and act like it wanted to run (had to give a small amount of throttle) for about 2-3 seconds and then would die. Did this about 5 times and the typical dead or low batter clicking occured. Got the bike home and it has been on the tender for the last 2 days and i just put some time in on the bike and sure enough bike will turn over although kida sputtering and making slight backfire sounds (almost as if timing is off) and will run for about 2-3 seconds and dies. I can do this about 4-5 times and the infamous clicking starts to happen again. Now my bike has never been a cold start bike, i always have to give it a bit of throttle when its cold to keep it running, but once it warms up runs like a champ...or atleast it used to. Its a fairly new battery and has been kept on the tender when the bike is not used for a few days. Now the other thing that bothers me is it seems that oil may be seeping out from where the head and the case meet, but very little. The motor does have a slight coating of oil around the gasket area. I did send the motor to ATK back in late 04 or 05 and had the reliability and upgrade done to it but have only about 500 total miles on it since then, with about 400 of those in the last coulple of months. ,Even with a good bike battery 4-5 tries is about all they have.So forget about the battery and go with basics fuel, compression and spark. Also sounds like you need some mapping help, you should never have to touch the throttle when starting. The will run perfect if they are tuned. Do you know what map is in it? Did ATK also change the ECU to a .atj map?,,,
