Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, check for the presence or absence of spark at the plug(s). If none, check if there is a +12 on one terminal of the ignition coil and a pulsating ACV on the other. Additionally, verify that the neutral light is lit. Try starting with the clutch lever pulled in and/or the side stand folded up.

Postback results of tests.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

2005 Jeep Liberty will not start no click no noise rather new battery. starts with jump but will not turn off even removed the key. replaced the power relay. still no start. newer battery.

Did you check the starter motor relay , location , under hood power distribution center ? When you turn the key to start the ignition switch sends a 12 volt input to the PCM / ECM - engine computer . The engine computer will then energize the starter motor relay . This is all computer controlled . Hooking up a scan tool to check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes an viewing input data should be the first in diagnosing a problem like this .

Try jumpering the terminals of the starter solenoid. If this spins the engine the starter solenoid is likely at fault. Before you go and replace it however, you might want to test the starter switch with a multimeter so you're sure it isn't a corroded switch.

Also if you manage to get the bike going, use a multimeter to check the voltage when the bike is running and when it is off. You should have at least 11.5 volts when off and 13.5 volts when running. The ideal is 12.5 and 14.4 volts respectively however.

From your description, it sounds like a bad starter motor. That is provided all of the cables going from battery to relay, and relay to starter are not corroded or have poor connections. The relay is a weak point, so it may be damaged as well if the starter has been pulling too many amps.

My 2008 CBR 1000 RR wont start. It turns over but wont fire without throttle and fans run constant? Any ideas?

Hi, Superspor231 the reason your bike failed to start is stored in your original ECM as a generated fault code, replace the original ECM and retrieve the code and go from there, for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can't find the first and best tool you ever bought for your Yamaha, despair not, for a mere zero $0 you can download another one.

I cannot get any power from my bike. When I turn the key switch on im not getting any power at all, what can be the problem?

all power should work even with a bad ecm..check your battery wires for corrosion ,,a white powered substance..it will be in the wire sheeting. If you see this new wires are needed. Bad ecm keeps it from running only. Lights should still work. Possibly bad ignition switch..make sure you have a good body ground..

It may be neither. I've heard some stories on here that points to either a securtiy system or and ECM problem on bike made after 2000. You can test your relay and starter.

Look at the end of your starter from the right side of your bike. It has a five sided plate on the end of the solenoid. Just above this plate is a single wire connection. Unplug the connector and use a test light inserted into the wire end of the connector. Turn on the ignition switch and press the start button, the test light should light or a meter should show battery voltage. If it does, it's something to do with your starter.

If it doesn't, the problem could be your relay. You'll have to find the starter relay as I don't know exactly where it is. On the older Dynas, it was in the electrical box on the left side of the bike right behind the coil cover. Once you find it. put your finger on it and turn on the ignition switch and press the start button. Feel for it to click. If it clicks but you're not getting power to the starter solenoid, I'd replace the relay.

But still, that may not solve your problem. When you first turn on your bike, you'll hear a click. If you hear a second click, it's your ECM causing your problem. This is the stuff that I know nothing about on a Harley. I work only on the bikes made prior to 1999. I hope this helps anyway.

Good Luck
Steve

the PCM may need to be reprogrammed by a dealer - I would also suggest seeing the dealer for any programming updates for your current PCM for this or similiar problems. I know many people think dealers are rip offs, but how mauch have you wasted at this point ??
