Thank yo for the response. Does putting a battery charger help in the least/ And plug wire cores do break down due to moisture. Remove the wire and ck the ends. If there is any white on them/it replace. Plug gap also affects coil output, closer gap demands les from the coil and that is just what it gets, Less. Lawnmowers have plug settings @.05 because the way the spark is created is limited. Whren the HEI ignition came out the plug gaps went as high as .060 because the systems had the ability to create a hotter and longer spark. The gap can be too wide or too narrow. So you may want to rethink your needs. Start with setting the plug gap at .030 , make sure it's clean and tease it by dipping the tip in gas. Make shure the plug threads and hole are free of oil or grease. That is you plug ground. Good luck and I hope this helped..

Quite often I've found on older bikes the coil can become corroded.  I would begin by taking apart all the electrical connections between the battery, ground, the plugs themselves, the coil, and the generator, and giving them a good clean.  Most of the time I've found, that should eliminate your problem.  A good way to troubleshoot this is to jumpstart the bike.  If the bike will start (i.e. has spark) while jumped, but will not run when you disconnect the jumper cables, it is most likely a corrosion problem somewhere in your system.
Good luck with your bike!

Not getting spark. replaced coil on 02 wide glide

LT side of the coil needs a breaker to fire, either its out of adjustment or is faulty. In the old days this was a set of contact points, cheap and easy to fix, nowadays its electronic and not user serviceable so if its faulty - sell the house!

99 softail, turns over but wont fire

Hi Anonymous, and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty
2. Fuel supply valve turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded with gasoline as a result of over use of enrichner.
5. Fuel valve or filter clogged.
6. Vacuum hose to automatic fuel supply valve disconnected, leaking, or pinched.
7. Discharged battery, loose or broken battery connections.
8. Loose wire connection at coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
9. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, spark plug cable connections loose,
or cables connected to wrong cylinders.
10. Ignition timing incorrect due to faulty ignition coil, ignition module, or sensors " Manifold Absolute Pressure" "Camshaft Position Sensor" "Crank Position Sensor" "Brake Apply Sensor
11. Engine lubricant to heavy ( winter operation )
12. Sticking or damaged valves or push rod wrong length.
13. Primary cam sproket spline sheared or missing spacer.
Good luck

Bike not firing properly, plugs fouled

If you used the choke to start the bike last winter, you probably fouled the plugs. Depending on the age of the plugs, you can either clean and re-gap them or replace them with new, which also have to be checked for gap.
Secondly, if you did not run the bike out of fuel after starting it, chances are you have some build up in the carb jets. New, clean fuel and Techron or Seafoam gas treatment will help if it's not too bad. Follow directions on the can. I personally used Seafoam but Techron is recommended by Honda. Be sure to mix per instructions, which on Seafoam is 1 oz. per gal.
