Too much oil can cause seal failure , Oil burning and carboning of compression and oil rings, not to mention blowing it out every nook and cranny it can find. sluggish response and waste of good oil.

What kind of oil does my 1999 suzuki esteem 1.8 liter automatic take and how much if low

When it is low to the first mark you need one US quart. The engine requires 5W-30W oil.

5-spdt M/T. Why has it stopped shifting into reverse?

Firstly check if you have gearbox oil in it seldomly so happens that a gearbox makes a noise but when it does make a kind of winding noise the gear inside the box has gotten damaged. Sometimes when lucky if you add gearbox oil the noise goes away.

What kind of damage to an engine/transmission occurs when my motorcycle was ridden for ten miles with low oil (oil on dipstick barely reached bottom of stick)

If there was still oil visible on the dipstick, and if you weren't seeing any low oil or engine overheat lights, you're probably OK. A high RPM engine without sufficient oil can get hot really fast. The low marks on the dipsticks are intentionally well above the 'damage happening now' points so that people don't wait too long. if you were redlining it on the way home, the odds of something getting riled up go up a bit, but 10 miles isn't too much of a schlep. You did the right thing topping the oil off. Make sure that you're telling the dealer exactly what you told us, and tell them that they need to take a look at the bike on their dime since they were the ones that messed up and only added half the oil. That should be no problem for a reputable dealer.

If you're wanting to keep things on your own watch, drive it gently for upcoming miles, and you can consider swapping the oil and filter if you're paranoid about any cruft getting burned/caked from a low oil situation. It's maybe $20-30 bucks of fairly cheap insurance.

Good Luck!

Mow for 30-60 min.mower shuts down. Sometimes you can mow all day.start goin up hills mower will shut down, about the second or 3rd trip.what's the problem?

Don't know what kind if engine you have but many have low oil shut down float switches inside the engine..when operating on hills or side if hills too long the oil will flow to the low side and the low oil switch will pick it up as low oil and shut it down..look for a small wire attached to the crankcase it most likely is that low oil switch..the next time this happens try disconnecting it and tape the end if the wire..try starting and run on the hill..it should not shut Down..just remember it is a safety switch to protect the engine from damage from low oil operation.try running the hills where the oil runs to the wire side of the engine..won't trick the low oil alert...Good luck..

Major tapping from the engine and oil light is on????

This sounds like low oil or engine bearing damage, and last a bad oil pump but if engine is noisey then engine internal bearing damage may have happened,i would check oil preasure first and then go from there,

I have a 1989 VW Cabrio 1.8L What kind of oil should I use living in VA and what kind of plugs are recommended. My oil light starts blinking after 10 minutes of driving when the rpm is under 1500 and...

ok any 10w30 oil should be fine I like ac delco plugs as for the oil light is it full? have you changed the oil filter? might have a clog if the car has not run for a whuile it might be full of gunk/residue from in the motor
usually this is a problem that happens at an idle and goes away when the motor is revved i know you say after 10 min under 1500 rpm but if it happens at higher rpm's you might be doing serious damage to the motor by running it and 1500 is kinda high for it to just be worn main bearings (one supply of oil preasure) the oil pump might be out the motor could be clogged small pathways for the oil return could be gunked up not alowing oil to return to the oilpan/oilpump dont think vacuum is the cause but is the guages even working right? you can get a cluster (3 guages oil temp voltages) fairly cheap 20$ or so try installing these even if just to make sure the guages in it are good I keep one in my toolbox for this hook it up check the readings see if they are safe hook the old stuff back up and put the guages back for next time

Vehicle wont stay running

This could cause it to not want to start. Highly unlikely but there is always that chance, it causes a resistance at start up on the crankshaft and higher pressure under the rods. It most likely didn't do any damage, but it could cause a problem if you were driving and not just starting. I would just do another oil change and see what happens.

Oil in rear projection t.v.

The "oil" is actually tube coolantthat is supposed to be between the lens and the tube. If the coolant was low you may have damaged the tube and maybe melted the lens if happened to be plastic.
