Question about 2005 Yamaha WR 450 F
I just had my sons 2001 yamaha roadstar 1600 in the shop because the starter would not turn over it only clicked. so they replaced the selonoid and called us to pick it up. when picking up and trying to start it made a clutching sound and freewheeled. after checking it out they said it also needed the starter and cluching system? we spent around a thousand dollars, picked up the bike and after about 15 to 20 starts it is again only freewheeling. we are hoping they will warranty the work but more troubling is do they know what they are doing? what could really be wrong? are there any tech bulletins on this?
From your description of the failure of the starting system the starter solenoid and the starter clutch is what I though of. It is possible the new starter clutch is bad also. their is TSB about the starter system on this unit.
