Question about 2003 Maico 250 Cross
I bought a moped to fix it up. So far I have put in a new spark plug, new piston kit, and new engine and gear oil. I have taken out and cleaned the carburetor and the filter. To start the moped i have to take the back wheel off the ground and spray starting fluid in the intake. Then once its started I have to hold the throttle on for about one minute. If I don't hold the Throttle down it will only stay started for 10 seconds. After holding the throttle for one minute I can let it go and it will stay started. I can drive it anywhere (this is how I broke in the new piston kit). I can also turn it off and it starts right up without starting fluid. Then after it sits for a while it wont start without starting fluid. Any help would be much appreciated.
Both types would use fuel enrichment to make the fuel/air mixture richer for cold starts. Motorcycles deliver extra fuel to the intake through small holes in the intake bore when the choke is activated. When cleaning, use something soft like a plastic broom bristle (not metal wire) to avoid scratching the inside of the jet or passage.
