that might be the case, the former owner said it did this all winter while sitting in his garage, but I don't know if he had the battery out, or a trickle charger on it. I suppose I need to pull off a battery terminal to see if it persists?

Sounds more like the primer / fuel pump is getting power and kicks in to maintain pressure.

You already know that it persists. No electric motor will run with the battery disconnected. That is a given. What you need to do is find the motor and find out why it is getting power when it shouldn't. There are 3 possibilities; fuel pump, air pump and cooling fan. Chances are the ignition switch is bad and providing power to the electric motor even when the bike is turned off.

Go to the site below where you can see a parts diagram for your specific bike. You will select the actual brand, year, model, etc., once you go to the site. Part numbers and prices are also shown. You can order parts from this site. In the event no price is shown on a particular part, or it says "Not Available", the part is not in stock.
www.babbittsonline.com/pages/parts/viewbybrandand/parts.aspx

In the event the part is shown as unavailable, Google " motorcycle salvage honda " and Google " Vintage motorcycle parts ". Chances are you can find what you need there.

Top rating for this solution? Thanks!

Remove the top cover and rotate the fan by hand. If should turn pretty easily. If not may you can put some oil where the shaft passes through the ends otherwise you will need a new motor. If the fan turns easily then the capacitor is probably shot. I don't know if you can get the capacitor seperate from the motor or not. There is a small low pressure compressor attached to the back of the motor. Your problem may also lie in there. The covers come off easily so you can check it out.

Hello, in all likelyhood your problem is going to be with the idler wheel, this as a wheel that takes up the slack from the belt and motor. It is located next to the motor and is normally just a wheel held in place with a piece of metal. You should replace it...the part normally costs around $15-$20. Hope this helps...Mike

Remove the belt from the motor and push 'start'. If the motor makes loud noises, squeals, or the shaft has side play in several directions, then it probably is the motor. Replace it. If the the motor runs quietly, then check the drum by hand to see if it is making excessive noise while turning. There should be a little resistance to turning, but not real difficulty. Hope this helps.

Noise when bike is off, Air compressor?

If you cut the bike off using the kill switch, but left the ignition key turned on, the electric cooling fan behind the radiator will sometimes come on for a little while. Turning off the ignition key will stop the fan.

Humming noise, runs and stops thru out drying process.

You have a motor that has a thermal overload built into it. This is for the dryer's protection. My best guess is to replace the motor. But before you do all that, make sure the wiring is good from the receptacle to the controls in the back of the dryer. It could not have a good connection thus causing this noise.

it is most likely the belt. the squealing noise is because the motor is turning, but the belt is not. a replacement belt is not too expensive and it is fairly easy to replace. if you need directions how to replace it, let me know

Fridge noise

Some larger refrigeration units have fans, but typical domestic ones usually do not, only inside the fridge/freezer compartment as such, and is used to force cold air inside the unit to help keep the contents cold.

As for the fire risk, anything electrical usually have a certain amount of risk as far as fire hazards are concerned, but certainly a lot lower then say an electrical heating element or similar device.

The noises you describe usually come from the pump itself, and i can not say if your particular fridge would have any type of fan on it not knowing the model, makes it very difficult to give any sort of prognosis - based on specific models and their typical faults/noises.

Unplugging the fridge simply stops the pump, and the noise usually returns in a minute or two as you have described, simply because the fault/noise is still there.

Pumps and repair work can be expensive, especially if the fridge is an older model and based on the average that most electrical units have a typical lifespan of 1 - 5 years depending on the quality of manufacture.

Look at it this way, a good basic unit costs anywhere from $800 - $1,500 and some of the more expensive models start from around $1,800 + ( Prices are based on Australian models and are quoted in Australian dollars )

Ok so lets break this down a little, i buy a new fridge for $1,000 and it lasts approximately 5 years, this is not expensive if you look at the cost per year which is approximately $200 / year.

Compared to the cost of repairs, typical service has a call out fee, plus parts and labor which can run into literally 100's of dollars. I guess what i am saying here is, they do wear out in time, due to fair wear and tear, and planning to buy a newer one every few years, is not such a bad idea - considering when you weigh up the possibilities of having purchased a device that can keep food cold for up to 5 years ( and in some cases longer ) for around $200 / year, planned replacement models make sense in the long run. A good way to know, is by looking at the warranty and plan to have a newer one to replace it within 12 months of the warranty's expiration, with the added bonus, you can now plan to sell the one you currently have for a few hundred dollars to help with the cost of getting a replacement.

Trust this helps you out a little, and please take the time to rate this answer, thank you.
