Noisy rear suspension

I rode the bike in serious rain and a squeaky sound started coming from the rear suspension. the source is hard to find. I've greased both (i found two) greasing points, but the sound is still there when the rear suspension 'works'. anyone please write how to solve the problem...

Is there a grease fitting on the swing arm? take out the bolts that hold the shock in place one at a time and grease them. use a bit of WD40 at all the pivot points until you find the source of the squeek.

Checking timing chain

They are a bit noisy sometimes, hopefully it's nothing serious, good solid bikes those so you should be good.
Check you have the correct oil in there, if your running a thin oil, it may increase the noise and wearing.
Try this, when its parked up and idling cold (when you start it up in the morning) get a screwdriver or somthing similar place the metal part of the screwdriver on the engine where you think the noise is coming from, then put your ear on the handle, doing this you will be able to pin point exactly where the noise is coming from buy moving the screwdriver around the casting also you can really hear her tick.
do it again when she's hot noting the difference of any. If it continues to get noisier, strip her down and have a look in there, could be just the tensioner/guides.
good luck

The problem you describe is coming from your suspension .if your having fuel problems and your car is puttering or surging this will cause bad suspension to sound very noisy and make a lot of different shake and rattles

Hi, Saisoku this happens to a lot of bikes and different brands it is usually caused by water getting into the fuel system and/or moisture getting to electronic components, wire connectors, wiring harness. This situation usually clears itself by letting the bike sit for a couple of days in the sun. For more information about your question please click on the blue links below. Why does my Royal star rear suspension squeak

Hi, Phil usually because you wash the bike a lot or ride in rainy weather it can easily be cured by spraying some WD-40 on the shock itself where you see any rust spots for more information about your question and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please click on the blue links below. No spark at spark plugs and coil has tested good, there is sufficient current at pick up off the cam as well, bike ridden through hard rain and started acting up during ride and eventually shut down 10...

Sounds like the water got in somewhere crucial and is preventing the components from telling the coil to spark.

Don't laugh now, but try hitting any suspect areas with WD-40. I recently learned the WD stands for water displacing. It was initially invented as something that could remove water. But it is flammable so exercise caution.

This is surely frustrating and thankfully it doesn't happen often to Harleys. I sure hope you find the source and get it sealed.

I rode with a group of 15 bikes from south WI to the eagle rehab place up in Minnesota. It rained on us for almost 90 minutes but not one bike quit running. So, when things are sealed as they should be, Harleys can run in the rain.

Hope you get this solved and get back on the road.

MOST LIKELY THE FRONT AND REAR SWAY BAR RUBBER BUSHINGS ARE THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM, ALSO THE FRONT LOWER STRUTS CAN BE NOISY AS WELL.

Adjusting rear suspension

the rear shock is adjustable, the ring below the spring turns and locks onto a kind of peg on the body of the shock. being that your bike is an 86 it may even be time for new shocks or an upgrade to stiffer. if you do adjust then make sure both sides are on the same setting. as far as tools needed some shocks can be done by hand with help from someone lifting the weight up on the back end. i dont know what kind of tools as i cant find a good pic online of your bike but maybe a C spanner / wrench

if it just clicks, firstly hook up jumper cables to battery, if it still just clicks, it will need starter motor brushes.
