Mark,
Sounds like a fuel issue with the carburator. Does it have a fuel filter.check it and replace it if need be. If it sat for awhile the carburetors probably need cleaning. I have a 1981 honda gl500 that had that problem. the carburetor can be a pain in the ****. just the smallest piece of dirt can make it not run correctly. Just for the heck of it before You do all that change the spark plugs. As far as the shocks go they probably are still pretty new yet. in time they will loosen up. I would rather have hard shocks than real loose ones any day of the week. Hope that helps You out.

Hi mark

thanks for using fixya and sorry about your problem.

first, the back and forward gears are caused by a worn our gear selector, or the selector spring is not doing its job. It could be a fault. you may have the bike serviced to look at the parts mentioned.

about the shocks, both OEM fork and rear does have a hard damping. you may loosen them up by removing some fork / shock oil. now be careful not to do this without training as the suspensions contain nitrous oxide that can be quite a kick if you disassemble it without clamping (trust me, i know :) )

okay, i sure hope this helped you out, if you have other questions, just let me know.

regards,

voodoo

Check the adjustment from the lever to the transaxle, if the linkage is ok the transaxle may be suffering from age and has leaking internal seals.

Hi i have seen this with most greenfield models The only way to fix this problem is to replace the drive clutch assy as it ends up to costly to replace the worn parts : shaft, clutch plates & drive pulleys.
In most cases replacing these parts has led to a new assy six months later.
